When Loki woke up, he was sprawled across the floor. He sat up, rubbing his head. 'What happened?' Loki wondered. As he looked around, he realized the book was nowhere to be found. Loki stood up, panicked when suddenly, a screen just popped up.
[Name: Loki Laufeyson]
[Race: Halfling]
[Agilty: 10/10]
[Strength: 10/10]
[Speed: 10/10]
[Stamina: 10/10]
[Hp: 10/10]
[Ability: Inspect]
[Level: 1]
[0/20 Xp]
Loki blinked as he stared at the screen. "What?" Loki said aloud. "What are you?" There was no response. Loki hesitantly reached out a hand to touch the screen. His hand passed right through it. Loki shook his head. "Am I dreaming?" Loki said to no one in particular. "Is it possible that this is an Ability? I've never heard of an Ability like this. When a person uses an Ability book, the book is supposed to still be there with instructions on how to use it. But my ancestors never shared their Ability, right? Does this mean this is my Ability? What does it do?" Silence. Loki sighed, wondering why he had expected some form of an answer. Loki looked back up at the screen. "Well, I might as well do try to see what happens, then," Loki mumbled to himself. "Is there any way for me to level up?" He said to the screen, feeling foolish for talking to a screen.
A sign popped up, saying 'Daily Challenges'. Loki tried to touch it, but his hand passes through the screen again. 'I want to see what is in the 'Daily Challenges', Loki thought. The 'Daily Challenges' box opened. "Huh," Loki wondered. "That actually worked."
[Drink 2 liters of water: 5 Xp]
[Sleep for 8 hours: 5 Xp]
Loki went down to the building's cafeteria and got water from the water dispenser. After 2 liters of water, he looked up at the screen.
[Daily Challenge 1 completed: +5 Xp]
[5/20 Xp]
Loki was thoughtful. 'So completing these challenges gets me Xp, huh? I'll play along for now and see what happens.' Suddenly, one of the cooks came up to the water dispensers for a drink. Loki panicked, not knowing how to hide the screen. The cook looked at Loki. "What'cha doing, boy? Staring into space?" Loki blinked. 'Does he not see the screen? Am I the only one able to see it?" As he stared at the cook, the screen changed.
[Name: Robert Law]
[Race: Human]
[Hp: 15/15]
[Ability: Fire resistance]
[He is able to walk into a fire without being injured]
The cook snapped his fingers in front of Loki's face. "Is there something wrong with my face?" Loki shook his head. The cook rolled his eyes, muttering, "Kids these days, no respect for their elders," and walked off, leaving Loki in his thoughts. 'I can see their names, race, health points, and Ability?! This power is better than I thought!'
He went back to his apartment to sleep and complete his challenge. Loki knew he would need all the sleep he could get anyway. Soon, military officers would round up all the kids that were turning 16 that year and bring them to military school. All kids were required to go to military school for 2 years, from the year when you become 16, and it was a global rule. There were many worlds filled with beasts and other creatures such as elves and ogres that might be able to invade Earth anytime, so everyone had to be prepared. At least that was the main reason. Loki knew that many of the higher-ups just wanted to play around with them, and get people in the military to sacrifice if things go wrong. Loki shook his head, trying to clear it. With the strange book, screen, and the Inspect power, he might just be able to survive military school. Loki's thoughts grew more scrambled as his eyes fluttered shut, and he fell asleep.
