New timetables: Portals?

The next day, during breakfast when Loki's Xp had upped to 485/800, Mr. Finley had given out new timetables again, and Daphne, her bodyguards and cousins were all seated at a table, comparing their classes.

"All of our classes are the same!" Terrence exclaimed in surprise.

"Since you guys are my bodyguards, you have to have the same timetable as me," Daphne explained. "And if our parents put me and my cousins together, they also probably wanted them in the same classes with me."

"Well," Saltavore sighed. "At least it'll be easier for us to talk, with more reason to communicate."

"We should get going," Terrence pointed out. "Beast-ology class is going to start soon."

The six of them headed towards the Weapons class, Nishan and Saltavore still distancing themselves from the others.

"You do know that we're working together, right?" Seraphine sighed. You don't have to act like we're some sort of annoying bug that you're tolerating just because you need them."

"Isn't that what you are, though?" Saltavore said.

"Just ignore them. Let them continue to be idiots stuck in their world," Daphne scoffed.

"Hey!"

Just then, they arrived at the Beast-ology class where Mr. Joshua was waiting for the last of the students.

"You've arrived just in time," Mr. Joshua said. "Take a seat."

After everyone had arrived and was seated, Mr. Joshua started. "Today, we'll be discussing about portals."

"Portals?" Murmurs filled the classroom as students whispered amongst themselves on what they knew and have heard.

"Settle down, class."

Once everything had quieted down, Mr. Joshua spoke again. "I'm sure many of you know that portals are used to travel to other worlds, where we can kill beasts for materials and their magic cores. There are also worlds where elves, ogres, pixies and other magical creatures live. Some of these magical creatures are friendly, while others aren't. Sometimes, these creatures also mate with other species, creating Halflings. Now, sometimes portals open on their own, because creatures from other worlds want to come and invade Earth, settle on Earth, or make trade with us. However, if we want to open portals, we have to use mana crystals."

"What is a mana stone?" A student called out.

"A mana crystal is a magical crystal that can be used for many things, such as making magical jewelry, weapons, or open portals. A mana crystal has some magic in it, some magical substance called mana, hence why it's called mana crystals. These mana crystals can be used for opening portals for us to invade, take over, make friends, take resources and many other things. When we want to open portals, there is only one way to do it. The only way is to activate the mana crystals to open a portal to a random world. Usually, portals will send you to where you are imagining to go, as long as you have a clear picture of the place. When you do that, the portals can vary from different colors to let you know how dangerous that world is. Blue means it should be safe, red means that it could be a bit dangerous, and purple means that it is quite dangerous. Of course, the colors only mean what the world was like originally. If some other creatures had came to invade or take over, or kill, or the beasts in that world had extinct, the colors don't indicate it."

"Mr. Joshua," Another student raised his hand. "What kind of people are allowed to go through portals?"

"Good question," Mr. Joshua nodded. "Raid parties, for one. They're groups of people from the Guild. The government puts together these raid parties to go into worlds and bring back goods and spoils. They 'clear' worlds, which means they deem it safe enough for people to go. Then there are Hunters, who are a group of individuals who go into one world from another. These are not by the government, and owe nothing to the government. The reason why the government doesn't just get rid of them is because there are too many. Hunters could be any race together, and they might not be from Earth. Hunters aren't known for settling. They usually don't have homes, and just stay wherever they can. They clear worlds too, but they don't always report it to the government, so that they have worlds where raid parties won't go to take resources. There are also Lone Wolfs, who are individuals who explore the worlds alone. They're basically like hunters, unauthorized by the government, except that instead of a group, they're alone."

"Mr. Joshua," yet, another student asked. "Will we ever be able to go into portals to explore other worlds?"

"When you graduate the academy, you can take a license test to become join the Guild and be part some raid parties, or find your own group to become a Hunter, or become a Lone Wolf. If you become a Hunter or a Lone Wolf and you die, the government wouldn't do anything about it. However, if you're part of the Guild and you die, the government will offer some compensation for your death to your family. However, the government has given us permission to take you students into a world that has been cleared. You will all be taken there in our next Abilities class and be allowed to explore. All your parents have already given us permission to bring you guys into that world, which is called Elara. I hope all of you are ready to do some exploring."

Cheers and whoops of excitement filled the class. What no one knew, was that Loki, Daphne, Terrence, Seraphine, Nishan and Saltavore wouldn't be going to Elara with them.
