Chapter 36
Random Town
Ash
I awoke with a yawn, sunlight glaring into my face. I turned over expecting a warm solid body, but there was cold emptiness. My eyes shot open. I took in the empty space, then swore. She left, she took off to look for them, by herself. I gritted my teeth, was Sofya trying to get herself killed?
I leaped from the bed and went to our room. I searched the room and found all her weapons gone, along with most of her clothes, and the window was wide open. I quickly got dressed, and gathered up all my weapons, and stuffed a pack full of necessities.
I sighed, I didn't even know where to start. I had only barely seen the map. Sofya most likely went through the forest to the coast. So, that's where I would go and then make my way north from there because that is where the map had instructed. I remembered that much. It wasn't a lot, but it was a start.
I climbed out the window, jumping about five feet down. The neria following at my heels, apparently the intruders didn't think to take them. Sofya also left Ezmia, why? I searched for her tracks but it had rained and all there was, was soggy mud.
I headed toward the forest, running at a steady pace. A few minutes later, the dark forest loomed over me, daring me to enter. I took a deep breath. I would get them all back, alive. No matter what.
