The Room

On Captain Samuel’s boat, Tyler and Calem are placed in a room and locked in. Tyler tries to get the door open by ramming it with his shoulder. Calem also tries before giving up. Tyler decides to try one more time.

“Tyler, forget it,” Calem says. “The doors locked tight.” Tyler stops hitting the door. Exhausted, he sits down next to Calem. All that effort got them sore shoulders.

“We can’t just let them leave us in here,” Tyler says. “My sister is still on the downstairs deck.”

“She’s still with Acrilla,” Calem says. “How are we going to fight the crew with just the two of us?”

“I have no idea,” Tyler says. He gets up and paces left and right. “Some way to finish our summer vacation.”

Calem places his legs together, tucking his chin close to his knees. “I wonder if my parents even know I’m missing,” he says. “Do you think they’ll find us, or will we be stuck on this boat forever?”
