Over the next two days, Tyler stays home from school, lingering in bed, playing video games, card games, streaming shows, and catching up on schoolwork. After his temperature went down after two days, he was able to go downstairs to lay on the couch in the living room. Later that afternoon, Emma comes home from school as she keeps her distance from Tyler so she does not get sick. As she does her homework, Jill comes home from work to make Tyler’s dinner first. Tyler heads back to his room to lay down some more as Jill brings the food to him. A turkey sandwich with lettuce, chicken noodle soup, a banana, and ginger ale with the fizz stirred out of it, in a cup.
“Thank you, Mom,” he says. “But do I have to eat the same things all the time?”
“Just until you’re all better,” Jill says. “When can I start eating pizza or burgers?” Tyler asks.“Do you feel comfortable eating that stuff yet?” Jill asks.
