Troy was going through chapter headings in deep thought. He was quickly making distinguishing details differences on the subject at hand. He knew a wrong diagnosis could result in complications. He was cramming his head with as much information as possible.
He was determined from that day. The day of the accident. He still couldn't remember the details. he woke up to see the blue sky that lingered in his head. The bright light made it hard for him to see. It felt like a bright flashlight striking his lenses. He was strapped to a board. He couldn't move an inch his heart raced. He couldn't see his brother. Panic flooded his veins he needed to know her was ok. That was the moment he decided to be a doctor. That was the moment he pushed himself. He wanted, no he needed to help as many people as he could. He needed to save people like Reese. He watched helplessly as Reese went to therapy. He didn't know why Reese and him survived the same fall with such different outcomes. Troy had a bruise and a cut on his head that healed at alarming speed. Reese never walked again.
People think of rashes as a simple skin irritation. In most cases they are right. Troy was identifying the difference between the dangerous rash types. The kinds of rashes that simply are and the kind that are warning signs. This was the way his studying went for over an hour. He had already been over the material before. He was cramming for his final test. The timing of his speedily return hone was not good timing. Was there a good time for this ever. Troy knew the answer to that. He also knew that if Reese had one weakness in life it would be timing.
Troy was feeling lost. The world had started to creep up on him when she spoke. He had done his best to push the thought out of his head. It was as if she knew he needed her. He needed her to save him from himself. Save him from his own thoughts. What she said was simply. It was a small piece of her world. She reminded him of how important it is to just live. To just breathe. She was a breath of fresh air in his starting lungs. For the first time in two days he felt like he could breathe. She told him of her sister and her mom. She talked with pride and embarrassment. The kind you only find in true love. That same feeling he knew so well. He put his hands down. He lost his place in his book. As she spoke it didn't seam to matter. Non of it seamed to matter right now he was the patient.
Troy smiled at the simple play on words. It reminded him of his brother. His little Reese. It reminded him of all the summers they played. Despite his brother being in a chair Troy never let him stay inside. He would push him through the street. He made him play basketball with him. He make him go right running with him. Reese would tease Troy and tell him if he only had a chair to ride then he could be fast. If Reese couldn't join in then Troy would stand out. He stood for him. He was his brother and if you can't stand for family there is no point in standing at all. Reese was and will always be his drive. He could see it in her face. Family and the happiness they can bring. The people who know you better then you know yourself.
He looked down at her wrist and saw something that only he would. She was speaking with love. It only confirmed it. Her bracelet showed the lightest color of purple it was almost pink. He had an odd and strange feeling. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to hold her. In that moment he felt scared and drawn at the same moment. What had happened to him? He was confused only moments ago he had decided that she was a diva from the underworld. Now he wanted to do what? He pushed the feelings as far down inside him. He wanted it to die. Hormones unbalance in extreme pressure he quickly diagnosed himself. These are not real feelings he told himself.
Troy found himself looking at her. He had to say something in return. He took a breath and what felt like an eternity he finally spoke from the heart.
" I can't wait to see my mom and my little brother."
He paused his brain but his mouth kept going.
"It is just the three of us."
He corrected himself he had only meet her at his wedding. Some part of him hadn't registered the change. He had talked with his brother on a weekly basis. He heard how she was his world. He was so happy for him.
"Well the four of us about to be five".
Troy knew that the number would probably never reach five. At least not in the way he wanted it too.
"I am going to be an uncle in a few months".
Troy thought of the last conversation he had with his brother. She looks likes she swallowed a bowling ball. Troy was excited to see first hand.
"My mom is so excited. She only had two boys and is over the moon to have now two new girls in the family."
Troy shared his excitement and put his books away. He tucked them under his seat. She had won him over. Or at least it had seen that way.
Troy changed the subject. The last thing he wanted to do was shed his pain on a plane.
I noticed your bracelet. I was wondering why you where flying coach. Troy was bold but he had to know. "Since it costs more then my first car.
" I would have thought that you would be flying first class."
He felt the words escape his lips. All the rules you learn in med school went right out the window at alarming speed. Did this girl have a spell over him somehow.
