Her traffic cone sister, Fawn. Brought a smile to her face. Fawn had been studying close to home. She wanted to be a vet ever since she was small. Jane was sure she had a couple of stuffed animals with various objects sewn inside them. She was excited to see her. They shared a room together their entire childhood. One side was covered in stars and the other half had puppies various animals. Her parents never let them have real animals so stuffed ones would have to do.
Fawn volunteered at the local animal shelter after school. She loved seeing the animals find new homes. It broke her heart to watch the ones that didn't make it. Often she would come home with stories. She would walk dogs and give cats rub downs. She sat at adoption fairs on the weekends. Most of the time she saw cats and dogs. Occasionally their would be a fox, bats sometimes even snakes and large lizards. Sadly people would abandon their pets when they had to move and couldn't take them with them.
Various wild animals would be picked up and placed into their observation room till they where released back into the wilds. Fawn had been volunteering or a few years before the officers would start to let her come along. At first it was to just watch. Protocol kept her from becoming too involved. She still enjoyed ever little bit of involvement she received. Fawn had a huge heart that could melt almost anyone. If she was here. Troy would be telling her about his dating history. Sometimes Jane felt was too personal to ask. A smiled spread across her face at that thought. She was grateful that she wasn't here. She didn't want to know if he was taken.
Jane looked at Troy sitting next to her. People shuffled off the plane. This is it. She wondered if she would ever see him again. She paused in her thoughts. Did this have to be it? Was this the conclusion of her first dream date? Minus the crayons of cores. Honestly it wasn't even a date. They where seat mates and that seemed to be about it. How crewel the world seemed to be sometimes.
It didn't feel like it was a simple meet and greet. It felt old and comfortable. had she met him before? She learned that he had a brother her same age. They where from the same town. They both loved to visit the canyon with a waterfall and a small pool of water below it. She wondered how many times they must have seen each other. She learned that he was in residency. She was brave enough to ask what all those disturbing pictures where. Somehow oddly enough she was proud of him. Even though she had only known him for a few hours.
Jane finished putting her items in her bag. Her pack seamed smaller. She made sure she had her phone and her headset. She had taken out the shirt and was now using. The blanket she wad using as shield from the cold. Until she found her mom. It was fall and it always seamed colder to her then anyone else. She was happy with clothes pilled all over her. She preferred the sun to beat down on her and turn her a happy crispy color.
Her mom would have a coat ready when she exists the airport but till then the blanket would shield her from the cold. Jane's blanket would hug her until her family did. In someway it was her super suit. The soft texture would repeal the harsh would around her. Soon she would be home and she wouldn't need it much longer.
The aisle started to clear and she thought this felt odd. It felt like they should continue together. It felt empty that they where going to part. She wasn't brave enough to ask him too detailed personal questions. She never liked to push someone. People will open up to you like a flower if you let them. Some have many petals and take their time showing off each layer. Others greet you in the earliest conversation and you simply recognize them as bright and simple with stunning beauty. She knew Troy was the layers kind of person at first glance. This is why she started to show her beautiful self first.
Jane was a layers kind of girl. She liked depth in a person. She would prefer to talk for hours about subjects that had nothing to do with a person. She found it would tell you how they see the world. A person who sees more than what is simply shown on the outside. That was a rare ability. She wished she had more time. She knew that if they where meant to be friends time would bring them together again.
Troy stood up and let Jane out. She stood up and looked to check and see if there was anything she forgot. She had some odd feeling that there was something missing. She shrugged it off; When all that was left was bits of crayon. Jane stepped off the plane for the first time in three, almost four years with someone by her side. It felt good she hoped that someday, she would feel that simple companionship again.
