Kyle watched the two figures from a distance. Reese was so young when he gave him one last hug. The memory was one of his favorites his tiny body fit perfectly between his shoulders. He could wrap his arms around him and have extras to spare. It took all his inner strength to not go running back. It took more then all his inner strength to leave. Kyle had to lied to himself and convince him that he would return again. That it was just time till he could hold his boys again.
Kyle had dreamed of this moment for years. Now that his baby boy was awake he found himself blinded in the headlights of doubt. So much time had passed. he was not the young child from years ago. Would he even accept him back into his life. Kyle realized the harsh reality that time had robbed him; when he sat and talked with Troy. Their relationship was only in his head and if it isn't groomed, it withers away leaving the shell of memories behind.
Kyle walked into the room holding a container of pudding. He stood in the cafeteria for a good five minutes, when he realized he didn't know what Reese would want. His own son was a complete stranger. Kyle settled on chocolate pudding because that is what he liked. He could eat it all day and not tire, there was something about the way it filled his mouth and melted. It was his comfort food and with out a further to do, it was now his wing man.
He was grateful when Angela welcomed him. To her Kyle was the hero her story. He saved her beloved and she would be forever grateful. Without either of them realizing it she had become a bridge between the two of them. Her arms quickly wrapped around him pressing her round tummy again him. She quickly located the pudding and calmed it for herself giving off a cute smile. She stated that they both love chocolate pudding and sat down to devour it. It took Kyle a moment to realize she was referring to her and her baby.
In Kyle's eyes Angela seemed to have a since of wonder to her. The same resilience that a young child has. She bore the beauty of a woman. Held the strength of a warrior all wrapped up in a colorful candy shell. A drop of pure joy in a world of hopelessness.
Kyle cleared his throat it was now or never. "It is nice to see you are awake". He started with the pleasantries.
"It is nice to be awake, all that you do here is amazing. Thank you for picking us to come here. I can't believe it. this is still all such dream". Reese was grateful and astonished he was on deaths door and had been dragged back.
He had been feeling tingling in his feet and was told it was so to a new procedure. Getting better was their first objective. No one had ever been this badly damaged and healed. There was no telling the stage he would be healed too. They believed that he would make a complete recovery.
"Glad to have you here". It felt awkward and forced. He really wanted to sit and talk all day asking questions. Right now he just felt like a unexpected visitor.
Angela could tell the awkwardness and could cut it with a knife. This was definitely not going anywhere and now that her pudding had been devoured she was ready to go to work.
"Babe, this is Kyle your father". She introduced him like a girl introducing her new boyfriend to her family. Silence filled the room. Kyle was stunned by her bluntness and well Reese was seeing a ghost. Angela was sweet and bubbly, she always seamed to know how to lift the mood.
"This is the reason your mom avoided the conversation about your dad." She made a creepy teething smile with a mater of fact kind of smile. She grabbed Kyle's arm and walked him to the edge of the bed.
"It is because he has been hiding all these years. He came and saved us. Now you will get better and our babies will grow up having two parents. And grandpa Kyle of corse." She still held his arm looking proud of her new find.
The two men just looked at each other. Kyle had just been outed he didn't know how to respond. It was easier talking to his daughter in law. He hadn't let her down. He held his breath waiting for a response. Did he gamble it all and lose. He wanted to talk but the words didn't seam to come.
