30. defence part 1

The medical building had perfect sound insulation system, one reason to stop any noise from distracting the medical staff and to isolate any screams coming from within the medical facility.

Every military building was structurally secure and wouldn't collapse from constant shaking, it was stable enough to withstand moderate earthquakes. Inside the medical facility, the rooms were shaking slightly from the bombardment outside. No equipment fell or got damaged but no normal medical person could work in these conditions, however military trained medical staff could and they had to do it quickly to get more patients seen.

Gareth who was semi-conscious felt the vibrations inside the capsule then he heard a siren resounding inside the facility. Opening his eyes he found himself almost recovered, he was finally able to see his skin again. Before he could thoroughly enjoy the feeling another explosion resounded nearby the medical facility shaking the building and Gareth snapped back into focus.

looking in front of him he saw a medical officer typing seriously on the monitor, Gareth tried knocking on the glass but it didn't seem to catch the officers attention. He began waving his arms and soon the officer looked up, after a prompt indicated the subject was moving. Gareth made a gesture to exit the pod, and the officer frowned and asked for confirmation.

Gareth nodded his head seriously and the officer pressed a few buttons and the medical liquid began draining. After it drained, the officer typed another command and the pod opened up.

A bald and drenched nude man stepped out of the pod and began to stretch his body. His muscles were very well defined and compact. He had a square face and his eyes had hints of wisdom in them.

There was areas on his body were there wasn't any skin revealing the tight muscles underneath, Gareth was already quite happy to be able to have most of his skin recovered and the areas that didn't have any skin didn't bother him much as he had been living without any skin for more than a month, in fact he felt a little uncomfortable having skin as he felt his body less sensitive to the environment.

Gareth went and put on his clothes and asked the medical officer what's happening, "we're under attack" the officer simply replied, his face still serious as he began prepping the medical pod for a new person.

Hearing the words, Gareth paused before he began rushing to get ready, his face was extremely serious and his eyes no longer had any brightness in them. When Gareth was about to exit the medical room, the officer said "the gathering point for the refugees is at the fortress, go there." Gareth said his thanks and ran off, while the officer nodded and with a sigh pressed the intercom and said "send in the next patient."

Rushing outside, he was knocked to the ground when a projectile landed nearby rattling the hard ground. Getting to his feet he ran towards his portable residence and found Mikage curled in a corner hiding under his bedsheets. It didn't move when someone came in and constantly shook,

Gareth noticed the terrified Mikage and sympathy flowed out of his eyes, he then called its name in a soft tone "Mika, I am back." The shuddering lump hiding under the blankets suddenly shook, then dashed out of the blankets. Seeing Gareth, it made a pitiful cry and dashed towards Gareth who bent down and received Mikage.

He patted and stroked it for a short while before murmuring an apology. Mikage whimpered a few times before calming down and falling asleep in his arms. Sighing Gareth put Mikage down and began to quickly arm himself.

A few minutes later, a man wearing the skin of various beasts and carrying a hand gun ran out of the residence and towards the fortress. On his back has a satchel where Mikage was sleeping, Gareth wanted to know what was going on and his first stop was the fortress where the refugee gathering point is.

Dashing towards the fortress, Gareth had his sight looking towards the sky, he looked upwards so he could perceive any projectiles approaching in his direction and dodge or stabilize himself. From time to time, a stray projectile was heading towards him and Gareth noticed it from the distance and immediately changed his direction. 2 seconds later there was a loud rumble and debris flew everywhere. Gareth had dodged the projectile but some debris had hit him but didn't do any harm, he would then continue heading towards the fortress.

He soon saw the inner wall in the distance and a few soldiers would stop him but after he revealed himself as Gareth they let him go.

He finally reached the gate that lead towards the fortress, he could hear the cries and prayers of various refugees within. A soldier guarding the inner wall saw Gareth and demanded to see his identity, Gareth immediately revealed himself and the soldier took a look before he threw down a powered elevator where Gareth got in and scaled the wall.

When Gareth reached the top of the wall he turned around and a grim look spread across his face. In the North far into the distance, past the outer wall where the soldiers had set up their defense line a huge colourful stream of enemies came charging at the defense line, even with his superior sight he still couldn't see the end.

Gareth watched the advancing wave comprising mostly of 1.3m tall aliens simply charging towards the wall, he could see many of the aliens get hit with some riddled with bullet holes leaking white fluid from their wounds, despite the large amount of casualties these aliens didn't seemed fazed.

Mixed inside the charging 1.3m tall aliens, there were a groups of 1.5-2m tall aliens that marched towards the walls, the aliens in the groups mostly comprised of ranged soldiers whose carpet like arm sprinkled with spikes had morphed into a arm rifle and were shooting at the humans on the wall.

There was a tall 1.5m alien that had a single arm that was extended with its hand providing a steam of energy towards a hovering sphere that was floating above the hand. The sphere released an energy barrier that surrounded the 1.5m alien.

As the group of aliens neared the firing line, the 1.5m tall alien spread out its closed fingers and the energy ball would become a little bigger, this caused the energy shield to expand and eventually envelop the other ranged aliens.

The bullets landed on the energy shield but didn't do much damage, one of the commanders shouted some orders and some soldiers began holding a special energy gun, the soldiers fired and an energized projectile shot from the gun and landed on the energy shield. The projectile exploded with green light and caused the energy shield to dim.

Inside the shield the energy ball the shield alien was holding was visibly shaking and the alien began to input more energy to stabilize the energy ball.

Before it could another energized projectile hit the fluctuating shield and it disappeared, as for the energy ball it exploded destroying the hand underneath the ball. Soon a wave of fire erupted from the wall and all the aliens in the group were killed.

There were many of such groups spread throughout the advancing tide of charging aliens, despite the high casualty ratio for the aliens they didn't let up.

Gareth asked for a pair of binoculars, these modified binoculars enhanced the viewing distance of the eye by 100x. This meant if someone had poor eyesight the view magnified would be less than one with very good vision.
