31. Defence part 2

Far off in the distance Gareth could see the alien artillery, periodically some of the artillery would be destroyed by the turrets but more would fill in the gap.

Continuing to scour the battlefield, he saw some larger aliens about 2.4m in height they had 3 doll like legs and similar to the melee aliens had a carpet like arm but it was much larger, these aliens also had a ranged arm at the back of the collar. Their collar was triangular as well as their head, Gareth believed that the shape of their collar and head represented what type of alien it was, if it was triangular then it was an attack type, if the collar and head was square then it was defensive and the round collars Gareth believed that they were the most common type.

He then saw a group of the 2.4m aliens take off, they ran at fast speeds no it didn't take long to run into the war zone, these aliens would run on top of the smaller aliens and where very elusive moving in erratic ways, soon they reached the firing zone and their ranged arm morphed into an alien rifle and began shooting at the human soldiers.

It also turned its melee arm into a lance then it did something strange, it coiled its body like a tightly wound spring and then launched itself forward still somehow shooting fairly accurately at the soldiers on the wall.

At the bottom of the wall there were some defensive measures to slow down the enemy such as mines electrified barricades and energy nets. There also some automated turrets that were constantly spitting a hail of bullets.

Currently these elite aliens had turned into a spinning lance, and flew passed the minefield and drilled into the electrified barricades dealing severe damage to them. The electricity however immobilised the elites and stopped them in their tracks, this allowed the human forces to spray bullets on them killing the elite group.

The problem with these elites were that they could use their entire body to greatly increase their melee capabilities while also greatly protecting their vital areas. Depending on what melee weapon their arm turned to their body would twist and turn to greatly increase the severity of their attacks.

You had to slow or immobilise them otherwise killing even one would be very difficult.

The war continued to rage with neither side faltering, occasionally the aliens would send a group of elites to advance their lead and by nightfall most of the ground defences had been destroyed. There were still a few automated turrets still firing but sooner or later those too would become in operational.

The wall didn't just have a strong defence but it also had an electrified layer in front of the wall causing agony to any aliens that reached the wall. The soldiers also had a large supply of various bombs that would be thrown if the aliens reached the wall.

The attack didn't stop because it was night time and the base had turned on the various lights lighting up the surroundings. The unique thing about these Cresomorphs was that they could be seen in the dark, their eyes, collar rim and their sphere like body glowed different coloured lights. It made for an amazing spectacle but none of the military had time to enjoy as they were still constantly fighting.

The military depending on their rank could fight for days or even more than 2 weeks if they were highly ranked. The various body modifications and genetic enhancements gave them ability to do so.

The battle at night wasn't to different from day except that the Cresomorphs didn't shoot as many projectiles and instead sent more ground units instead. One particular alien was particularly seen during the night, they walked like a lizard on 4 needle like legs, above the needle was their joint which was spherical and the upper portion of their legs were in the shape of a round leaf, on those leaves was a melee arm totalling of 4. Their core was situated in the middle of a collar which was triangular and the legs were attached to the collar.

Their triangular head was actually underneath the core and was upside down not that it seem to affect them much. Lastly they had two ranged prickly carpet tentacles attached to the collar on either side respectively.

These aliens were designed for mass slaughter, to be sent in after the defences were crushed and were facing the enemy themselves.

These aliens were quite tall and had a height of 6m, humans after countless years had greatly increased their average height from less than 2m to around 3m for an average human as for the taller one they could reach 4.5m.

The aliens scuttled along the ground like a spider and despite their large size they moved their limbs very quickly, they would also jump from time to time to evade enemy fire.

As it's core was exposed it would use its smaller kind as bullet sponges to protect its core.

The Cresomorphs weakness was their sphereical body, it was quite resistant and couldn't be punctured by ordinary means. It had the texture of rubber and could stretch quite a bit and high velocity or extremely sharp weapons were needed to get through the membrane.

Once punctured it would burst like a balloon and the Cresomorph would begin freezing up turning as fragile as ceramic.

The Cresomorphs planned to destroy the gate to get inside and deployed these Cresomorph strikers to damage the gate.

Their plan was fortunately unsuccessful and the night went by without any breaches.

Dawn had arisen and it was the next day, Gareth had stayed on the wall for most of the day before he went down, there were some soldiers who came at night to deliver food, everyone was tired and stressed so food was greatly received, Gareth was also happy for the food and ate with relish he also shared some with Mikage who woke up in the evening. It had snuck out of the rucksack and into Gareth's collar, after its long nap it wasn't as frightened anymore and would infrequently poke its head out to survey its surrounding from time to time.

Gareth decided to bring his portable residence and move it to the south of the inner wall, as all the attacks were coming from the north, even if there were stray projectiles heading towards him it would be blocked by 2 tall inner walls and the small fortress, so Gareth exited the the inner wall and got his belongings and moved his campsite.

Finally finished Gareth headed inside and Mikage happily jumped out of his collar happy to have some space to move about. As it was getting late at night Gareth decided to go sleep, Mikage played for a little while before it jumped onto Gareth's bed and slept next to Gareth's head.
