34. Defense part 5
Bam!
Every few minutes a deafening collision expunged between the military gate and the fist of the sieger.
Soldiers had begun to reorganise their position and set up the second ground defense behind the outer wall.
Bam!
The gate shook and another dent appeared on the gate, officers were hurrying their group to get in position meanwhile on the wall, many soldiers began hurling various explosives down onto the sieger, the various explosives left skin deep marks on it and made the sieger angry and it begun to pick up its pace.
Bam!
Probably within 2 hours the gate would fall and the first line of defense would be breached, the control center had begun activating the various ground turrets behind the outer wall, over 20 various types of guns came out of the ground and began to power up.
Everyone was feeling tense, and many forgot to breathe when the seigers fist collided with the gate.
The soldiers on the wall begun trying to take down the sieger core, however it had a barrier that protected its core and would take a few hours to break.
The commander had reinforced the soldiers on the wall with more men, and tasked them with bringing down the shield ignoring the alien army that was on the ground.
Without the continuous fire from the humans the ground units convened with the sieger and begun to assist in breaking down the gate.
The various explosives though put a stop to the attacking ground units, various pieces of Cresomorph parts would be flung from consequent explosions.
The flying cresomorphs also assisted the sieger by distracting the soldiers on the wall, even with the various anti-air turrets there were still those that broke through and attacked the soldiers putting their all into taking down the sieger.
Some soldiers left off the wall and landed onto the sieger back, dodging the various attacks that were protecting the seigers cores, 90% of the soldiers that jumped would prison before reaching the core and the 10% that did would plant explosives and retreat. Less than 1% would manage to get back safely, when the explosives detonated the seigers shield wobbled a little and seeing some reaction from their efforts more would jump down to blow up the shield.
Every single life sacrificed was remembered and inside the command center a scribe was writing down the names of soldiers who valiantly sacrificed themselves to take down the shield.
The base commander couldn't participate in the fight as he was the trump card for this base he couldn't go out unless the base was on its last legs. However he could command those lower ranked than him to fight.
He sent the command for the officers to participate, outside many officers were currently watching and commanding their subordinates to fight. The soldiers continued their fight while their superiors were watching, no one said anything everyone complied and dutifully did their orders.
Then a message flashed across every officers visor, and their weapons which were silent became online. The officers who were commanding suddenly all stopped at the same time and then they roared!
AAAAAHHHH!
It was a glorious roar, one full of vigor and feelings of freedom, the officers who had only been on the sidelines suddenly unholstered their weapons and joined the front lines. The dire situation that this base was in suddenly turned around and the Cresomorphs were being pushed back.
As for the sieger even with the aid of the officers the shield did not break but it was currently flashing.
The Cresomorphs noticed the humans had sent stronger reinforcements so they didn't hold back and sent in the elite cresomorphs.
The war once again reached a stalemate and finally after an hour the tough shield for protecting the sieger core had burst. There was no cheering as they started to fire on the tough shell that protected the core and would take another while before the core would be exposed.
Half an hour in the outer shell was badly damaged and the core was going to be revealed, however the sieger suddenly slammed the ground creating a shockwave that knocked all things backwards.
When the dust cleared, the sieger had regenerated its outer shield, curses began flowing out of the mouths of both officers and soldiers alike, they still continued trying to take down the shield but knew in their heart it was not possible to succeed.
Gareth had been watching the fight all this while and when the sieger had regenerated it's outer shield, he himself felt disappointed, he wondered if there was someway he could take down the sieger.
As he looked he suddenly came across the large rocky overhang just in front of the base, the sieger that was almost through the gate was directly beneath the overhang and when Gareth saw that he got a brilliant idea.
He communicated with one of the officers and it was the same female officer he had messaged before, she just executed a dozen flying cresomorphs when her visor got a message.
She was about to dismiss it when the strange man appeared and she answered, when she read the message her eyes lit up me a smile spread across her face.
She relayed commands to her subordinates to maintain defense and moved off.
She went and activated her weapons charged explosive round and then aimed at the beginning of the overhang and fired.
A sonic boom resounded and the wind blasted into her face, however she wasn't affected and watched the round shoot towards the rock overhang.
Bang!
It's was a direct hit and lots of small boulders dislodged from the overhang falling onto the sieger and various Cresomorphs attacking the gate crushing the unlucky ones.
The officer waited in bites breathe, after a minute loud cracks resounded in the atmosphere and the wr was momentarily paused and everyone looked up.
Cracks began to appear on the overhang, small at first but they soon began to get bigger, then the cracks reached the edge of the beginning of the overhang and then there was a silence.
The female officer was still waiting and was about to reload another round when Bang! The large overhanging rock broke and fell.
The sieger was busy lifting its huge arm and didn't notice the rock falling onto it until it was to late.
KABOOM!
The sieger didn't even let out a sound before it was crushed with its core and outer shell squished into the ground.
The Cresomorphs on the ground were all knocked away flying and were scattered in various directions.
The soldiers on top of the wall all paused before a loud roar resounded
YEAAAA!!!
Gareth was the action from the top of the inner wall and shook his fist in the air and also roared. The Cresomorph sieger had been felled and currently the various cresomorphs had been knocked away by the collision with 40% being crushed and the rest lay strewn about stunned by what had happened.
The base commander who was silent all this while inside the fortress actually smiled and gave a command waking up the dazed personnel.
"Launch the ram sleds" he simply stated
Hearing the command the various personnel got excited and relayed commands.
A lounge rumbling resounded and the outer gate that was about to be destroyed was slowly opened, and despite the various dents it didn't stop the gate from opening fully as it was made with it in mind.
Soon large revving of engines came from the various vehicle hangars and a fully armoured low laying vehicle with a reinforced plow in the front emerged and lined up outside the open gate.
The ram sled had sharp blades on the top and sides of the body and was used to plough through enemy lines. The commander saw an opportunity once the sieger went down and deployed all 15 of them.
Once all these vehicles lined up the green light was issued and the ram sleds sped out of the gate weaving away from the big Cresomorph and charged down the land.
The Cresomorphs had just reorganised themselves when they were met with the ram sleds and taken by surprise many were cut into pieces.
The armoured ram sleds continued decimating enemy lines and resisted the various blows launched by the aliens.
The soldiers watched the ram sleds for a few seconds and began climbing down the wall and tidying the battlefield as quickly as possible. The ram sleds were tough but they would soon be destroyed and the soldiers would need to have tidied the battlefield and set up new ground defences by then.
About 20 minutes into the tidying they heard a massive explosion, they knew that one of the ram sleds had been destroyed, each ram sled was unmanned and carried a powerful explosive when the ram sled was inoperable anymore. Hearing the explosion the soldier began speeding up but a few minutes in multiple explosions rang out in the distance and the soldiers were slightly stunned.
After another 10 minutes all 15 ram sleds had been destroyed and the destruction was too early and didn't make sense.
A scout looked into the powered binoculars and saw 5 Cresomorph siegers in the distance each one was 2-3 times bigger than the one they faced. It seemed the one they fought was a juvenile and it already gave them such a hard time.
When the scout reported the information everyone in the base was gloomy and the commander was frowning.
