The new key figure

Mike's voice came from the door. I nodded shyly and ran over to take a look.

Mike's appearance was completely different from the glamorous façade at the ball. His clothes were all tattered as if he experienced some kind of disaster.

"You were two hours late. Did something bad happened to you?" I asked worriedly.

Mike wailed as he leaped toward me, "Miss Elena, I was here long ago, but there was a car accident on the road. Someone scammed me and kept me there. They even beat me up. Since this was a private meeting, I didn't bring any bodyguards, so..."

After I asked the servant to bring Mike some new clothes, I looked at Ken in doubt. "Didn't you say that the road here was very safe?"

Ken sat down on the sofa where we talked and distanced himself from Mike. "Accidents happen, don't they? After all, not everyone could come to my house as they pleased."

His words were not friendly, and I was afraid that it would annoy Mike which would make him to not give me the clue. Hence, I said sheepishly, "I'm sorry, Mr. Mike. If this happens again, I will send someone to pick you up or meet you in person."

Mike had already tidied himself up. He took the water I handed him and winked at me. His tone was regretful. "I initially wore an elegant white suit to meet you, Miss Elena. I didn't expect to appear in such an embarrassing state in front of you."

Ken smiled as he spoke, but his tone was very displeased. "We said that we were here to exchange information, but Mr. Mike acted like a peacock and spread its tail. He wanted to get my girlfriend's attention. I wonder what Mr. Mike's intentions would be."

Seeing how they were going against each other, I could not help but pulled Ken over and asked softly, "Wait, Ken. Did you arrange for Mike to get into a car accident?"

Ken did not deny it, "It was just a small lesson. He wasn't injured at all. We only delayed him so that he wouldn't be in the mood to have a private meeting with you."

I felt extremely guilty toward Mike, but I could not tell him the truth. I had no choice but to get back to business. "Mr. Mike, I'm very sorry about your accident, but I still wanted to ask, how did the investigation go?"

Under Ken's sharp gaze, Mike's frivolous smile disappeared, he took out a document. "The night your mother disappeared, the mysterious woman who appeared in the company wore a ruby ring, right? We found out from the clues that the ruby ring was sold at the auction house three years ago. A master designed it, and there was only one in the world."

He handed over the picture of the ring and continued, "Moreover, the woman could easily appear in the company and even took away the surveillance cameras. It was obvious that she was not an ordinary person. After our search, we finally confirmed that it was her."

Mike pointed to a picture of a woman. I recognized the beautiful, mature face on it. For a moment, I was stunned but also had a sense of surprise.

I asked, "Could she be Winnie? Chris' mistress for many years and Grace's mother?"

The body's true owner only met Grace's mother once, so I was not completely sure now.

Mike gave me a positive answer and provided me with more information about her.

Grace was brought into the main house by this woman when she was six years old.

The mother and daughter stole Chris and destroyed the family of the original owner.

Winnie may have looked like an ordinary lady to outsiders, but I, who knew the plot, had already seen through her.

When Chris and Winnie fell in love, they had already given birth to Grace.

However, Winnie hated that Chris did not have any money, so she encouraged him to marry my mother. She eventually entered my mother's Carter Family through Chris and my mother who gave birth to me.

Although she was not officially married, Winnie did not care.

As Chris's lover, she and Chris benefited from the Carter Family and swallowed up the Flying Bird company that my mother founded.
