Chapter 22

Neivayka let out the breath that she was holding and could almost do a happy dance. Despite the frustrated groan that came from Nesha, she was excited to have these two along.

“Fine, great, let’s go. The effects of the iachant are powerful but not long-lasting,” Nesha warned before moving off in the opposite direction of the camp.

“Wait!” Pontius called, then zipped off into the tree line without further explanation.

“Pontius!” Theo called, hurrying after him.

“What’s going on?” Neivayka called and began to follow.

Nesha grabbed her arm, stopping her abruptly.

“Leave them,” Nesha demanded. “The hunters are about to wake up, and we can’t chance waiting for a couple of foolish boys.”

“I am going after them,” Neivayka stated stubbornly.

“Neivayka, you don’t understand.”

There was something in Nesha’s voice that made the bones in her body halt. Their eyes met and there seemed to be a sort of worry or fear in them that seemed just plain wrong for a woman like her to have.
