She gasped and clamped down on the darkness. And, inadvertently in her panic, severed the connection between her and her powers. The water went splashing to the ground, soaking them both completely leaving them cold.

“What happened?” Steval snapped.

Neivayka hesitated. After having finally managed to wall the Shadow Spot off, she really didn’t want to consider her efforts had been in vain. She didn’t understand why it was bothering her now after all these days of silence. Maybe it was a fluke? She thought desperately. And if it was, then there was no reason to worry Steval.

“Sorry,” Neivayka murmured. “Wasn’t expecting that to happen. Lost my concentration.”

He glared at her for a moment. Please believe me, please believe me. She pleaded with him silently.
