Chapter 49

His clothes looked like they were made from different kinds of plants weaved and sewn together. The hat on his head was made from a tree leaf. Some bark was wound around his waist, then up one shoulder. His overly large feet were completely bare and extremely hairy. She noticed that his big brown eyes and his wide bulbous nose almost hid his wide mouth even as it was drawn up in an enormous grin.

“Us brownies are quick. Quicker than any other creature ye’ll e’er meet. Ye best be remembering that,” the brownie warned her.

“Oh, I will…” Neivayka promised and began walking again.

She couldn’t see any reason to force the brownie back the way he came. He seemed sweet enough and more curious than mischievous. She wanted to touch the Sight to see what his intentions were. But she feared the Shadow still. Instead, she just went with her gut feeling, which was telling her that this creature was not there to harm her.
