Chapter 50

There was not a single person that was happy when they saw Pete the brownie still perched on Neivayka’s shoulder when she walked in the door. But the moment Pete felt the warmth of the Temple, he curled up and fell asleep, not caring about the havoc he caused.

“What were you thinking, Neivayka?” Elder Steval demanded.

“He was all alone. But he didn’t need to be,” Neivayka explained.

“Brownies cause chaos wherever they go,” he warned.

Nesha scoffed. “Chaos is too nice of a word for it. They are also some of the biggest thieves I’ve ever met. And I’ve hunted the worst thieves in the land.”

Pontius looked serious for a moment as he walked over and took a good long look at the tiny creature. The brownie gave a gentle little snore causing Pontius to smile brightly.

“I’m sorry, I know they are a pest. But I’ve always thought that they were adorable,” Pontius admitted morosely.

“Oh, no. Not you, too,” Theo moaned.
