Neivayka looked at Janese with mild shock. She hadn’t really expected Jenese to be gung-ho to take on the Gods. Jenese gave her a weak half-smile, then returned to her drink after letting loose that bombshell. 


Neivayka gave her a grateful look before turning back to the others. Steval avoided her gaze and looked out over the garden. However, Iola’s face was a pale sheet of horror as she looked her friend down.


“No!” Iola shouted suddenly, startling everyone. “This is ridiculous! You will not do this!”


Neivayka gave her a look of shock. “What?! Why not? You were the one who said it was my destiny to stop Lorimer. Is that still not true?”


“No! You have already paid the ultimate sacrifice for your fight. I will not allow that to continue!” Iola shouted, then turned to the others. “How can we stand here and ask her to do this?”
