Chapter 121

“Theo, come on, please,” she pleaded.

Footsteps pounding down the hallway brought her to alert. She didn’t know if it were Lorimer coming back with some of his druagers and didn’t know if she could take the chance that she could defend them both against them.

“We have to leave… NOW! Theo, please, we are in danger, and I can’t carry you,” Neivayka pleaded once more.

The footsteps were closing in, and the pounding of her heart almost drowned out the sound.

“Theo! Now!” Neivayka screamed, grabbing his shoulder.

Despite knowing there was no way she could carry him, she tried lifting him anyway. She couldn’t even get him up high enough to get him off the table. Neivayka gave up and turned to face the new threat coming in through the door. A whole contingent of guards filled the doorway and filed in slowly, knowing they had the upper hand now.

“There’s no point in running, Neivayka,” Lorimer’s voice drifted through the hallway. “We have you both, now.”
