Part Time Jobs

"One coffee latte for Ms. Rodriguez!"

"Are you shouting at me?" the girl said.

I asked for her nicely, and all I got was attitude.

"Oh no... I'm sorry madam, here's your order. Please come back again. Enjoy!" I flashed my sweetest smile while giving her, her order.

She accepted the coffee with anger. That's why she got burnt. Serves her right! She rolled her eyes on me before going out in the coffee shop. I was laughing hard until I remembered I still have my next work. When I looked at the clock it's already 10:16!

"Oh no, I'm late" I muttered and run as fast as I could going backdoors to changed my clothes.

"Tine! Where are you going? Why are you in a such hurry?" Mavis, my bestfriend asked.

"At the restaurant. I might get scolded again because I'm late" I said. She nodded and wished me a good luck.

Mavis and I were best friends since high school. I'm just a new student at that time so I didn't have any friends.

Then Mavis came, she had a grand entrance that time. Imagine it's our first day of school yet she's late?

That time when she entered the room, she seated beside me and introduced herself. The day I met her.. my quiet life became noisy.

She's clingy but I'll not regret meeting her. She's my comfort person especially when I have problems at home. She's also my tutor when I didn't understand the lessons. Her family is rich. They own the coffee shop that I'm working at. I'm just a normal girl.

She's a spoiled brat, she even followed me until college. Her parents treats me like their own daughter. I sighed as I stare at the restaurant that I'm working at.

"This is it Tine, fighting!" I said to myself.

"VALENTINAAAA!! WHY DID YOU ARRIVE JUST NOW?!" My manager shouted.

"Sorry sir.. I had to do something and it's traffic outside" I reasoned out.

"Is it my fault then?!" I feel like my eardrums' gonna break. We're talking in front of each other, why does he need to shout?

"Sir.. It's too early to get mad chill.. Your voice is ear boggling" I saw how his mood changed and was about to speak.

"Joke!" I added

"Stop with your nonsense jokes, Valentina. Go and get changed already! You're already late yet you move sluggish" he shouted, again.

"What?!"

"Joke! I'll go get changed, sir. Bye!" You almost got fired, Tine!

I almost got tripped while running backdoors to get changed. I think I'm already qualified to be a runner! Kidding aside. When I was done, I got back immediately and waited in the corner for customers.

I'm a waitress here at the restaurant. I don't know what my manager is thinking when he assigned me to be a waitress. I mean how can be a beautiful girl like me, be a waitress?

As the usual, there are a lot of people who are dinning in here today. It is rumored that the son of the owner is handsome so some of them are eating here, hoping to see him.

"Excuse me waitress!" I hurriedly went to the customer.

"Good Morning Ma'am and Sir! May I know what's your order?" I asked.

"We'll take the chef's choice" the girl said.

"Oh okay.." I said while writing it in my notepad "How about drinks?"

"Hmm 3 Iced Tea please" I nodded. Okay done! I hurriedly went backdoors and informed my workmates about the costumers' order. I thanked them and gave the costumers' order right away.

"Here's your order ma'am and sir" I said while smiling at them. After that I went back to where I stood up earlier and waited for another costumer.

While standing in the corner.. I observed the family that I served earlier. They look happy. They are all laughing because of their child's story telling. I smiled bitterly. If only that accident didn't happen years ago.. My family would be like them.

At exactly twelve o'clock my work ended. It's time for my lunch. Yay!

I changed my clothes again to my jeans and shirt. I decided to go home after because my last part time job is at night, at a convenience store.

I live alone in an apartment. My mom works abroad that's why. On my way home, I bought 'lutong ulam', I'm not that good at cooking and I hate frying! That freaking oil hmp!

When I got home, I immediately removed my shoes and my bag from my body. I checked some messages while waiting for the rice to be cooked. I decided to take a nap first.

"Riingggg!! Wake up, you're gonna be late Valentinaaa!!" I woke up from my alarm.

That's Mavis, she volunteered to be my alarm sound. Her voice is just too loud, like is she eating microphone?

I stood up and prepared the clothes that I'm going to wear later. I wore a yellow over-sized shirt, a maong pants, and my white sneakers. I brushed my short hair and tied it into a ponytail. I put a powder and a lip tint to finish the look, I don't like wearing makeups. Perfect! I posed in the mirror before going out.

I arrived at the convenience store, at 6:10 o'clock. I was surprised to see my workmate here. During day is her work time. I slowly entered inside and fixed some newly arrived stocks. I made sure not to make a noise to let her sleep peacefully.

"Gab, wake up" I said in a low voice.

"Mhm mhm"

"Wake up already alright? I'll just fix something backdoors"

A little later.. I finished fixing some stuffs backdoors. She's currently arranging her things inside her bag. When she noticed me she smiled and waved.

"Hi Tine!" she greeted me with a huge smile. I waved and smiled back. "I'm gonna go home now, bye!"

"Okay okay.. go home safely hmm? Bye Gab!" I hugged her before she went home.

I really admire Gab, she's still a high school student yet she's already working. She was an orphanage years ago. She once told me that the 'De Vera' family adopted her, and I'm thankful to them. If possible.. I would really want to meet and thanked them in person for raising Gab. I'm an only child so she's like my younger sister. They were kind to her but they're kind of strict.

While eating I suddenly remembered that it's the last day of our enrollment so I need to catch up. When I'm done eating, I cleaned up and took a bath. I also prepared on what will I need tomorrow. I lay down. Phew what a tiring day it is!
