Picking my personal knight

I groan at the list in my hand.

"Come on darling! You have to pick a knight! You're already past the age of needing one!"

It's a fine Saturday afternoon. The sun is shining, the sky is sparkly, I'm dressed in a white knight's uniform, and my mom is pleading me to take in a personal knight. I'm not sure if it's the fact that she's wearing a corset, but she seems more attentive than usual.

"Mom I can literally burn a man in a snap why..." I stare at her and she sighs.

"But why would you dirty your hands when you can-"

"DAISY'S A TRAINED ASSASSIN!!" I sob.

"You need a knight!!" she cries. "What if you two don't react fast enough!!"

I sigh and give in. "I'll get a knight. BUT!! They have to win me in sparring."

My mom perks up at that. "SUMMON ALL THE BEST KNIGHTS AT THE ESTATE! MY DAUGHTER'S FINALLY GETTING A PERSONAL KNIGHT!"

My mom rushes out of the room. What enthusiastic parents... how lucky of her. Crystalia really did have everything that I wanted...

A knock on the door interrupts my thought process.

"Crystalia? May I enter?" It's Felix's voice.

"Come in Felix."

He walks in. His hair is slicked back, and he's in a navy suit.

"How fancy," I snicker.

"I heard you're getting a personal guard?"

"If they win me in sparring,"

Felix sighs. "A nightmare."

"I know right?" I smile. "If someone's going to try and win in a spar... what a nightmare."

"Lady Crystalia, Duchess Villarreal is asking for you." Daisy nods.

"Let's go pick a knight!" I walk through the mansion with the two behind me and I open the doors to the training grounds.

"Crystalia!!"

"LADY CRYSTALIA!" The knights pile on top of me and I fall to the ground from the impact.

"Get off the lady," The commander grumbles. "Before she blasts you off like last time."

I snicker. Last time the knights weren't willing to get up so I ended up blasting them off of me. A couple of them landed in the trees, another handful landed in the hay, and then the others landed onto the dirt ground. A hilarious sight, but not very pleasant for most of us.

"The Duchess informed us that you would be picking a personal knight from us today. Who wants to spar the Lady?"

The knights from before all scramble to the side, and there's no one left.

"Commander!"

"Commander save us!"

"My apologies Lady Crystalia," the commander knight sighs. "Perhaps I could bring you to the-"

"SEND FRED!" a voice erupts from the group.

"YEAH! FRED!!" The group pushes a knight to the front. Black hair, purple eyes, huge and beefy. He looks just like every other manhwa lead I-

Also, if black hair is so rare in the empire, how come he has black hair????? I THOUGHT IT WAS RARE I'VE MET SO MANY NOIRETTES BY NOW??

"Sorry Lady Crystalia," he apologizes.

"WE HAVE MEEK KNIGHTS IN OUR DUKEDOM???" I gawk.

"Ehem, Fred is an exception," the commander smiles. "His personality is meek, but he kills without hesitation. He's merciless. He's one of the heads of the information guild your father runs in his free time. Ah, he also scares people off with his face despite being soft on the inside."

Big... teddy... teddy... teddy bear... I WANT-

Felix coughs from behind me and then smiles.

"Shall you two spar? The Lady is looking for a personal knight."

Fred nods, and the commander hands me a sword.

"Can he spar weaponless?" I toss the sword to the side and Fred nods. He places the sword onto the rack. I think over what I made Fred's fighting style. Ah right, he's accurate with his punches and kicks.

"Begin!" Fred doesn't hesitate to trap my feet underground and lower my mana to rush over and knock me out. I barely dodge his hits. I snap my fingers and in an instant, Fred's shrouded in darkness. I want to see how he would react to having to kill someone in the darkness.

Surprisingly enough, Fred only falters for a second. I kick my legs free while he freezes, and he pins me to the ground by the neck. The darkness around us fades and I grin. Kinky.

"Huzzah!" I cheer and shift out of his grasp.

Shadow arts. The act of turning your own body into a shadow and then sneaking out. Both the moon's blessed and sun's blessed are able to do this. The sun's travel by light, and the moon's blessed ones travel by shadows. Since I'm blessed by both, I have the upper hand. Are we sure I'm not a Mary Sue or something-

"I found my personal knight!"

"Then we can have him officially appointed."

"No need," I look at Fred. "Sir Frederick Harper. I trust you know the knight appointing of a blessed one?"

Fred nods and gets down on one knee.

"With your consent?"

"I consent," Fred places a hand over his heart, takes my hand into his, and recites the pledge. "I, Sir Frederick Harper of the Villarreal dukedom's knights pledge my loyalty to Lady Crystalia Villarreal. May the day you part become the day I leave your side. Now may the blessed of the sun and the moon bless their knight with the seal"

When the fuck did I write something so romantic. I thought this was a knight's pledge???

I place my free hand on his forehead and recite my half of the pledge.

"May the day I pass become the day that this seal breaks. I, Crystalia Villarreal, swear to keep you by my side as my loyal knight. May the end of my days become the end of our pledge. With this pledge, I seal the mark onto your skin."

A gold summoning circle covers the land under me and it engraves itself onto Frederick's head. The winds around us soothe out and then Frederick stands up.

"Alright!" I clap my hands. "A few ground rules,"

Fred stares at me.

"For starters, as long as you're not uncomfortable being called Fred I will call you that as well. Second, you're free to leave my side at any point if there's an assassin. Third, call me Crystalia." I smile.

Fred nods.

"Ah also," I smile. "Your job starts tomorrow. Have some fun with the rest of the knights today."

Aaah... collecting pretty boys like collecting fine wine...
