Kyle was having a leisurely breakfast with Jay and James of all people. James was muttering about how a handful of his rank C's had left the safe zone without permission and came back with a ridiculous story.
"A survivor really? How dumb do they think I am." James hissed to himself as Jay patted his back.
Kyle was quiet, a survivor in the open monster zone. He or she had to be a ridiculously powerful mage. Or it was made up.
"Total baloney!" growled James "I have half a mind to reduce them by two ranks and make them clean the guild hall for the rest of eternity!"
"Are you worried about it?" asked Kyle.
"No!" replied James firmly.
Jay laughed "He totally is. Would you mind maybe having Bright, I uh mean Cody, look into it? He should be fast enough to avoid anything."
They had all gotten to a first name basis instead of code names but Jay would occasionally still use them.
"Sure, he's been bored lately with Connor being out of town for a few days. The idiot should have just gone with him. But a task will keep him busy, I suppose I should be thanking you for it." Kyle replied.
Jay smirked. "Look see James problem solved. Now stop sulking already."
James grumbled something incoherent. As he thanked Kyle.
They both left a little while later and Kyle returned home to find Cody. He was grumbling and muttering under his breath while destroying pretzel sticks and lying on the ground. Yep Connor should definitely have taken him with him.
"Oye Cody." Said Kyle poking him with a foot. "You got too much free time, want an assignment?"
His mop of blond hair turned up to meet Kyle's eyes. "Assignment?" he asked.
He told him everything James had told him then added "probably just an excuse but if it isn't we should reach out to the survivor."
Cody was more than happy to zip off with something to do. Kyle on the other hand could really care less. He'd seen too many people to die. He wasn't going to get attached to some random person who may or may not even exist.
He did feel briefly concerned for Cody but he was legit the fastest person he knew of. Only thing to be concerned of with him was how much Connor would kill him later if he got even a scratch on him. Don't go tripping on any roots please. He thought as he pulled out a book and sat on his favorite chair to read for a little.
...…...
What Kyle wasn't expecting was an hour later to see Cody drag back a male who was large than him and didn't look at all happy about the trip.
He had black hair that partly covered his eyes making them hard to read.
"This is him?" he asked Cody who nodded.
"What do you want." Growled the guy his eyes dark.
"Let's start with names shall we." Replied Kyle already not liking this guy's tone. "I am Kyle, and this is Cody." He decided to go with real names since this wasn't just a CIA job.
"So what? I get dragged here against my will and you want to act civilized." He growled.
"Name." Kyle stated again.
The male frowned then finally growled "Kip. Can I go now?"
"Okay Kip, where do you live and why were you in the open zone?" Kyle asked. He looked rather young.
"Because I live there." He replied curtly. "Done yet?"
Kyle didn't believe him, even Cody wasn't stupid enough to live in the open zone. That was like asking for death on a daily basis. Whatever he'd get the info off him later. Although if he had no family their might not be a missing person report.
"School?" Kyle asked.
"Self educated" he replied.
Brat complete brat, Kyle tried to avoid being annoyed or at least letting it show.
"Element?"
"None."
"In an open zone without protection?"
"I have a sword."
Okay now Kyle was sure he had to be crazy. Whatever it wasn't his problem. If he wanted to try to live there and died in a few days of hiding he could.
That was also when his magic picked up an injury on him. "What happened to your leg."
Kip flinched "nothing." he replied.
Honestly so temperamental and annoying. "Let me see it." Kyle said. He'd feel bad if he threw and injured person to the wolves. However if he healed him and Kip then tossed himself to the wolves that was fine.
"Why?"
"Because I'm a healer."
"I'm not paying you." He retorted
"I didn't ask for anything." Kyle was getting more annoyed by the second.
"Then why?"
"Call it whatever you want, but you aren't leaving until I've fixed your leg." Kyle glared.
Looking insanely annoyed he pulled up his right pant leg and undid a bandage. "Happy yet?" he growled revealing a long cut.
Kyle's eyes jumped a little in surprise the claw mark wasn't a wolf claw like he'd been expecting. "A lion?" he asked.
"So?" Kip instantly replied.
"Wait that lion by your house was your doing?" gasped Cody from the background.
"You took a lion down?" Kyle asked. They were usually a rank 9 earth type monster. If he had taken down a lower ranked 6 one of them….. He wouldn't admit it but he was a little impressed. Maybe his story did have more facts to it than he'd first seen.
Cody's next words surprised him more though, "That was like a level 9 beast!" Cody yelped.
Kyle's eyes narrowed a little. It was a normal one not a weak one? Just who was this guy really? He still couldn't sense what element he was. To take down a level 9 beast you had to be a quite powerful mage. Was this guy really the one who had taken it down?
