RB Chapter 78 A Meeting
Upon making his way inside, he found the place to be crowded, more so than the Masanyalaze clan headquarters.
He moved towards the receptionist desk.
"Hello miss, I was dropped off here and asked to take the elevator to the highest level. Can you point me towards which?" He asked the woman behind the desk.
"Oh, you must be one of the specially invited guests!" She said as she checked a floating holographic information stream.
Eric saw that she was seeing his image. It was the one after the injury.
'When did they attain that information? I never sensed anyone spying on me.' His eyes narrowed.
"Take that one." She pointed towards one which was colored in gold at the side. The others were in silver.
Eric placed his left hand in his pocket and made his way towards it. He keyed in the no. 31 button, which was the highest floor and the elevator started ascending quietly. Many people in the lobby had looked at him when he had been standing in front of the golden elevator.
"I wonder what that was about." He wondered.
When the elevator doors next opened, he almost screamed when he looked on the floor! It was transparent and he could even see people occupying their cubicles going about their work. He stepped out cautiously and walked trying to be as careful as possible.
'How can they make such a floor? Aren't they scared of falling down?' Even though he didn't have a fear of heights, this was still too much! To him this transparent glass was too fragile!
He walked carefully along the corridor and upon reaching the double doors at the end, he hurriedly opened them and ducked inside, before breathing in a sigh of relief.
'That was harrowing!'
When he turned around after calming his heart though, he almost fainted in embarrassment.
Around a circular table, nine figures were seated. All of their eyes were locked onto him curiously. There were both males and females. He only recognised two of them and one was Leah. She was clad in a green tight fitting long dress which emphasized her curves. The eyes she was staring at him with were almost dead, lacking any of their previous liveliness. A glimmer had appeared when she had caught sight of him, but upon focusing on his dark blue eyes, that glimmer faded.
The other was Elena, but a murderous aura was pulsing from her body. It was suffocatingly horrifying! She was clad in simple casual clothes just like him. When she saw him, she looked at his scar and his missing arm before turning away.
"Another bumpkin has arrived." One of the people occupying the round table talked. It was one of the other seven that he didn't recognise.
The seats around the table had four males and five females. If he was added, the number of males equalled that of the girls.
He headed towards the only empty seat in the room which which was in between Elena and Leah.
'Do they still not get along?' His vision roamed the two girls' facial expressions.
"Judging by those signature blue eyes, you must be from the clan of those eels." The person who talked the first time once again opened his mouth. He was thin like the bookworm types, he had spectacles covering his eyes and he was looking around at all the people around the table with a condescending expression. He was wearing a black suit, his hair combed neatly and his posture was straight!
But what was coming out of his mouth was something else entirely.
"So, should I care about what you are saying?" Eric asked with narrowed eyes. A dangerous aura was pulsing from his body, way more potent than that of even Elena causing her to take a second look at him.
"Don't scare me little brat. I have way more experience than you, so don't bring about your puny aura." The man wasn't intimidated at all. To him it was like the bloodlust didn't exist at all!
"Besides, you look disabled, have you become so poor that an arm can't be printed for you?" He mocked.
"Shut up Ngabi!" A magestic voice came from a burly man causing the man called Ngabi to shrink back into his seat.
Except for the trio of Elena, Leah and Eric, all the others at this table were well over their 20s. The three were the only teenagers.
"I am Mugumivu Njovu. Your father Baguma was friends with my aunt." The man directed his gaze towards Eric when he said that.
'Oh! That crazy woman!' Eric dredged up a memory.
"My name is Eric Masanyalaze. I saw your aunt, right before we went into the wilderness." It was only polite to introduce himself since the other party had already done so.
And according to what he saw, all the others seemed to be deferring to this burly man. As everyone except one had looks of respect when they looked at him. Even Elena, who never respected anyone had a trace of respect in her eyes.
'This guy isn't simple. I must keep my guard up.' Eric's eyes flickered.
Before anyone else chimed in, a 3D holographic appeared in the middle of the table it was of a woman and it was rotating around in place.
"I see that everyone of you here is still young. If you were old men, I wouldn't have deigned to contact you all in person. Let me introduce myself, I am Cleopatra. For now you aren't qualified to learn of my other name. I am the CEO of the Black Diamond Group." All the people at the table sucked in a breath of air. They all had an inkling of the scale of the group and such a young woman leading all of it was truly shocking!
'So she is the CEO. I expected an old man or woman. She's too young. She's about a little bit over 25?' Eric speculated.
"The reason am meeting you personally, apart from your age, is also because the coming era is going to be filled with turmoil."
'What turmoil is she talking about?' A bunch of question marks floated in Eric's mind.
"You are going to be the first that are going to experience the new policies of the Black Diamond Group. In order to become a high level executive, you will need to become the strongest energy channeller."
"What!" Most of the people seated around the table exclaimed except for the youngest trio.
"Miss Cleo, energy channelling requires years of practice. Even our parents simply decided to stick to the genetic slot method." A woman, dressed in a pencil skirt, a black coat with a blouse underneath, said. She was beautiful, but not to the level of goddess status. Her face had a perpetual cold expression and she gave Eric the impression of someone who was always level headed.
"What is your name?" Cleopatra asked.
"My name is Sally Ggonya." She answered politely.
"Miss Sally, as I was saying, this coming Era is different. Our entire organisation needs to move with the times. If you can't do that, then, sorry, our group doesn't need you." Her eyes were sharp. Even though she was just a hologram, there was a certain intensity to her.
'So, all the people here are scions of the ten clans...the surviving ones.'
"Currently I have zero interest, can I go back?" That question came from his right side. It was Leah.
"Me too, I have some people I have yo kill, so just drop me off in the wilderness." Elena's murderous aura intensified.
"Elena and Leah, right? One wants revenge, the other, has lost the will to live. Hmmm, I can let you go, after all I have just discovered that the both of you are useless! Though that would also mean that the shares that your parents painstakingly bought in this company will be revoked. That's our policy."
"Why?" Eric asked curiously.
"Its simple, we are strong! If we want to take back the shares, its that simple! If your parents were still alive, it would be hard, but now, look at yourselves, still thinking that you still have your previous status and worth. Well, sorry to break it to you, but you are worthless in my eyes. The only thing you have going for yourselves is the potential to become stronger." All the people at the table fell deep into thought.
Leah had paled when she thought about something that her mother had earned being squandered by her.
"All of you, think carefully. Let me give you some hope. The stronger you get, the higher the position you will have. Your intellect will be secondary since you could just hire an attendant/secretary. Also, I am the strongest person in this group. If you can defeat me, you will get my position!"
Eric's heart which hadn't beat for a while due to excitement sped up, causing him to clutch his chest.
'It looks like I am not truly dead inside.' He sighed.
'Should I participate and become a high level executive?'
"How much worth is the entire group currently?" Sally asked causing all the others to look at her weirdly. But no one jumped out to berate her as they also wanted to know.
"Hmmm...it has been a few months since I last checked, but its about...81 trillion Universal Credits."
The collective sound of sucking in air was heard. Everyone had a look of shock frozen on their faces...even Leah! Such a shocking amount of money!
Some of the males had their gazes heat up when they next turned towards her, and one of them was even Ngabi!
