Chapter 7

Sam screamed for the alley joining her in the living room at the same time, Keira spilled her coffee on her keyboard in alarm.

"What!?" She asked with round eyes scrambling for a towel.

"It's Jenny"

She passed Keira her cellphone, Keira pressed it to her ear with her shoulder dabbing the keyboard furiously, passing Sam a fierce look for almost giving her a heart attack.

Jenny Dougherty's voice came on. "Hello, Keira, it's an emergency" she pleaded.

Jenny Dougherty was her first friend since high school, she just got out of a marriage that rocked last year.

"Spare me the theatrics, Jen. I had my feel of that this morning."

She grimaced at Sam who bit her fingers.

"Can you watch over Darby for me?"

Sam shook her head violently with enlarged apertures.

"Yes, I would love to babysit."

Sam pretended to black out on a small hunter-green couch.

"For how long?" She dipped her head to drink her coffee.

"Till next month_or two"

Keira spilled on the monitor and put the laptop away wiping her mouth and coughing.

"That's a long time, are you going away?"

"Yes" Jenny answered

"Jenny"

"Fine, I love Darby but I'm exhausted, mama needs to cut some slack"

Keira bit her lip, Sam put her hands together, begging her not to push this any further and just say no.

"Okay, till the twenty-third, we already had Thanksgiving."

"You're kidding, right?"

Separating Darcy from Jenny was like trying to cut a limb off a human being without anesthetics.

Keira craned her neck hearing the background disturbance, covering her other ear.

"Are you driving?"

"I'm parking right now, that's how desperate I am."

"Hello?" Jenny cut the phone.

There was a thump on the door, Keira wormed through the coffee table and seats to answer it.

She wasn't joking, she had dark circles under her dark brown eyes wearing a dark green jacket with a white top that had pink inkblot designs on it, mom jeans, and flats. Her hair was in a flattering rough ponytail.

Jenny pushed the duffel bag to her and a baby basket with a somnolent Darby in it, he looked precious in his Pokemon onesies.

"I have a formula, his favorite toys, storybooks, fresh clothes, diapers, baby oil, medicine, money, everything you need"

She said hurriedly, Keira couldn't catch up because she was talking too fast.

"You sure you want to leave him here with us?"

"Keira, I haven't had an empty nest since my mother-in-law took him away for the weekend."

"Okay?"

She smiled "I will be moving to the mall for a well-deserved shopping spree for an ensemble."

"We have ensembles"

"You're at home today, right?" Jenny waved her hand cracking up "Thanks again, you two are the best friends ever "

She blew an air kiss to the both of them and took off, Keira placed the basket on the coffee table quietly, Darby sucked on his fist and she shut the door with a click sound.

"You had to say yes, Keira..."
