Chapter 6

Over the years, she had been moving on just fine without Stephen Daniels who passed away from gastrointestinal complications, he had a big heart but an even bigger appetite.

"Logan..." Her voice trailed when she took his hand, her gold band glittered.

He recognized that tone.

"We spoke about this on the phone."

"You've worked very hard for our family and your efforts won't go unappreciated."

"You don't need to thank me, good grief." He muttered sighing. She was pulling at heartstrings again and pushing on this topic for months now.

"I do and you're turning forty, don't you think it's time to settle down and start a family?"

"First of all, I'm thirty-five years old and..."

His voice trailed when her expression changed, he'd turn down employees or people looking to work for him flat without a moment's hesitation but the disappointment on her face was gut-wrenching.

He wasn't ready.

"I found someone"

She gasped heaving her hand to her chest as if she didn't believe her ears.

"You don't know how happy that makes me."

His lips thinned when she embraced him with happy tears, not one of the smartest decisions of the day, he saw patches of pink on her cheeks.

"I always thought Megan was your type."

Megan? She was a friend of the family, daughter of James Danforth being Stephen's closest friend.

"You've been holding out on us, haven't you? Who is she? I wanna know everything." Her eyes sparkled.

She threw more questions at him and he squeezed her hands to get her to calm down.

"It's a surprise. Now it's been a long trip, I'm going to retire for today."

"Oh, dear."

"See you at lunch" he pressed a kiss to her temple, her eyes crinkled following him while he took off.

Logan took the shortest passage to his old den and rubbed between his eyebrows, that adventure went on smoothly, he thought.

A dog with golden fur emerged from under the table, it virtually jumped on him welcoming him with kisses.

"Harry old mutt"

It was a mix between a husky and a labrador, he let the dog down and he gazed at Logan with the beautiful blue eyes of a husky.

His dog was three years old and still recognized him. A present from Amy, the youngest, he sent Harry back to keep away the distractions and it stayed with the Daniels clan ever since.

Harry nuzzled Logan's pocket with his snout, ecstatic.

"I don't have any treats"

An object dropped and clattered on the floor, Harry sniffed it and sat down, swishing his tail with his tongue out.

Logan crouched, picking up the whimsical headband recollecting last night's redhead, he rasped when Harry walked into his arms, placing a paw on his arm.

...

Keira sat back for the last fifteen minutes on her website updating and canceling ads about weddings and events planning.

They lived in a small flat with two bedrooms and their rent was two months away from being terminated.

She sipped a hot cup of coffee with her plate of toast close, she was sore from laying on the floor, and they took the bus just as she worried. Waiting for one to stop by was the issue.

Sam screamed from the alley.
