Chapter 5

Curious? About time.

Her one eye opened sharply at that.

"Funny, I thought Sam was would bring that up_"

"Logan" he cut in.

"Suits you" She chuckled feeling at the blanket, her other arm outstretched toward the lamp, her thick eyelashes shielded her eyes giving her a dreamy appearance, her red hair splashed across her chest over her hand. There was something artsy about the way she posed.

She had a warm voice.

"Sad, I thought we might end up couped together till the cold passes," he said in a low, husky voice that sent chills creeping down her spine, she shivered.

"We sell teddy bears, I can go over there and find one that's just right for you."

Logan grinned "I'm looking at one."

Smooth, she thought, the ball's in her court. She shifted a little hoping Sam wasn't keying into this "conversation" that was going down in flames soon with her sub par social skills.

"Thank you but I'm not looking for any hugs from strangers right now."

She made huggers sound like lovesick serial killers, the thought of coddling with him made her ears burn.

She wasn't about to let her guard down. She would sleep with one eye open even if that meant literally. "I don't mean to trample on your ego"

"None taken" he replied with a grin plastered to his face, she was funny in an odd kind of way.

"Good night, Logan"

She turned, the sheets ruffled noisily.

"Goodnight"

The road had been salted, he drove past the suburbs in the cold hour of 6 am. The clouds were scanty, there wouldn't be any chance of a blizzard, for now.

He scratched his stubble, this would've been a good time for a good shave.

He was one lucky bastard and so were the pilots who told him the weather was safe to fly in, they had to land miles away from Cheyenne to beat the blizzard and he took a rental car from there.

What was the aviation sector coming to?

The car slowed when the gate slid open and he drove into the expanse of the mansion, a few workers attended to his luggage and he went into the house.

At the large foyer, Joanna was the first person he met, she glanced at him in disbelief and abandoned her crochet to hug him, he had to reduce his six feet to her five foot four, she had a very slender, delicate frame. She kissed his cheek.

"Logan, what a pleasant surprise. I've missed you"

"I called, mom"

"Only once in a while_oh these contraptions, you can never really figure them out." She joked with teary grey eyes, he had her eyes and black hair.

Joanna Daniel, widowed and gradually moving into her mid-sixties, her hair was styled into a chignon with fine grey streaks, she had a nice set of cheekbones and lips with laugh marks at the corner of her eyes.

She led him to the chair and wrapped her arms around him again.

"I'm sorry, you've been away for such a long time, it's hard to believe that it's you...you look so much like Stephen"

He chuckled nervously trying to remember why he resolved to visit for Christmas.
