The Future Lady Boss

He was still at home. Truth be told, she had only seen him twice; the day she offered cookies and the day he helped her home. He was always barely around too. Who knows why he is always cooped up at home.

Callan shook her head. She ought to get her thought straight. It was none of her business and she was determined not to poke nose. She took a last look at her tightly shut door and left the building.

Barely forty five minutes later, she walked into a shop with a plaque that read, "Coffee Touch" She didn't hesitate and made her way to the young lady at the counter.

She said, "Hello. I am Callan. I got a mail that I have been accepted for the job."

The lady lifted her head and looked at her with a small smile. "Oh, welcome. I've been expecting you."

Callan's eyes brightened up.

The lady got up from her seat and continued. "You'll have to meet the manager first." Callan followed behind her as they walked a flurry of stairs.

They halted in front of a chocolate door and the lady knocked. There was a pause and a brief silence before a male voice rang out from the other end of the room.

"Come in."

The lady glanced at me before turning the door knob and opened the door. She didn't close the door and held it with her hand, giving Callan enough space to go in. They both walked in and the door was shut behind them.

Callan's gaze landed on the man sitting behind the desk in the room. Probably because he felt her gaze on him, he lifted his head, the pen in his hand which had been scribbling on a file paused.

The lady next to her gave a flattering smile after the man looked at them. "Boss, she is Callan."

The man who had been indifferent towards them earlier seemed to stiffen. He instantly stood up. Callan had no idea why he was reacting that way. He seemed a little nervous. He probably realized how weird he was acting and instantly beckoned to her to take a seat. Callan nodded and sat down, placing her bag on her lips.

The man looked behind her, his gaze falling on the other lady. "Thank you, Lilian. You can leave."

The lady, Lilian nodded and walked out of the room leaving only the two of them in the room. The man looked anxious as he stretched his hand for a shake. "Hello, Callan. I'm Lawson Barton."

"Hello, Mr. Lawson," Callan greeted with a smile.

"Oh, Callan. Just call me Lawson. I personally approved your application letter."

Callan's eyes curved into slits. "Thank you, Lawson."

Lawson Barton stared at the young woman who sat across him with a smile on her face. When he decided to recruit two more sales lady, he had been very passive. He had even been more indifferent when the applications had been placed in his office. But unexpectedly, he had received a call from the big boss's secretary. Remembering the abrupt call the day before, he had been scared out of his wits. As a minor manager of company's branch in Sicily, he hadn't even had the chance to ever meet the big boss. But he suddenly got a call from the boss's secretary!

Just the thought of it made him ecstatic.

And the more he looked at Callan, the more he felt that she was probably the future Lady boss. Anyway, lady boss or not, he had been ordered to make sure the young lady got the job she wanted and he had to make sure she was being treated well.

"Ms. Callan, you've been recruited," he said with a smile. He reached out into his drawer and brought out a document. "You can skim through it and choose which you would like to go for."

Callan gave an understanding nod as she swept her gaze over the words printed onto the paper. In the end, she placed the paper back in front of him and pointed at the third word.

Lawson looked shocked and he glanced at the paper unblinkingly. "Waitress?"

Callan nodded. She wasn't here just to earn money. She needed the excitement.

"Yes, I want to work as a waitress."

Lawson looked at her and when he saw the unshakeable resolve in her eyes, he nodded and ticked on it. He said, "Okay, then. When do you want to resume?"

Callan pursed her lips and asked if she could start working now, which the man nodded in approval. Callan was a little suspicious, though. She felt that the man seemed to be anxious. And do other companies treat their employees so respectfully?
