Plotting

When she got back to the counter, she was surprised to see three customers already on seat. The 'close' sign hanging at the door had already been switched to 'open'. The chatty brats were also not there anymore, leaving only Lilian and the red haired behind the counter.

She walked towards them and avoided looking in the direction of the seats on the other side of the large room.

Lilian noticed her standing by the counter and glanced in her direction. "You're done."

"Yeah."

Lilian turned to the red head and introduced, "This is Enisa."

Callan looked at the red haired and nodded, outstretching her hand. "Hi, Enisa. I'm Callan. Nice to meet you."

Enisa glanced at her indifferently, nodding in greeting and didn't take her outstretched hand. Lilian frowned disapprovingly while Callan just retracted her hand calmly.

She wasn't at all affected. After all, not many people liked others touching them. Some also liked being in their own nests and hated it when anyone talks to them. It appeared Enisa was one of those people.

Callan gave Lilian a smile and asked, "What should I do, Lilian?"

"Oh." Lilian sized her up and asked rather doubtfully, "Are you sure you want to start working now? You don't at least want to take any lessons and watch the others first?"

"Is that a requirement?"

Lilian waved her hands frantically. "No. Just an advice from my side."

"It's nothing," Callan said. "I should be able to handle it."

"Okay then."

Lilian pointed towards the customers seated on the other side of the screen. "Do you see that man at the end of the room? The one sitting by the edge of the window."

Callan turned to look at the man and nodded.

Lilian continued. "Go to him and get his order." She also grabbed a menu book and gave it to Callan.

Callan gave a grateful nod and walked along with the menu book and a pen. She walked to the man at the other side of the screen and called out in a professional manner, "Hello, sir. Would you like to take your order?"

The man who had been looking out of the window turned to look at her, a confused expression on his face. He asked, "Che dici?" [Trans: What are you saying?]

Callan gasped and hurriedly apologized, "Mi dispiace così tanto, signore." [Trans: I'm so sorry, sir.]

The man nodded and Callan hurriedly gave him the menu book. She said, "Vorresti ordinare ora?" [Trans: Would you like to order now?]

He pursed his lips and handed her the menu book. "Una tazzina di caffè espresso e un cucchiaio di zucchero." [Trans: One cup of espresso and one tablespoon of sugar]

Callan gave a respectful nod, putting the details in writing and walked towards the counter. She unknowingly sighed with relief. It had totally skipped her mind that not everyone could understand English. Most of the people around were native speakers.

Upon getting to the counter, Lilian's worried gaze came into her view. She glanced at Callan and then to the man before whispering, "Did he cause you trouble?"

Callan shook her head. "No. It was my fault. By the way, his order." She placed the menubook in front of Lilian.

Lilian picked it up and skimmed through it before giving an understanding nod. She immediately prepared the coffee and placed it on the table.

As she got herself busy, Callan also grabbed a tray and placed the jug of coffee in the middle. She arranged two small coffee mugs around it and placed the sugar beside them. She eyed the coffee as the feeling of unease settled in her. She had a nagging feeling that she had forgotten something.

Lilian glanced at the neatly arranged beverage and mugs on the tray and gave her an acknowledging smile. "It seems you realky don't need to be put through anything." She was about to continue when she noticed Callan's expression. She asked, picking up a tablespoon. "What's wrong?"

Callan shook her head and collected the spoon. "I think I forgot something."

She placed the spoon on the tray and was about to pick it up when she suddenly remembered. He was left handed. She sighed with relief and arranged the mug handles to the left.

Callan sported a beautiful smile as she picked up the tray and walked towards the man. She placed the tray in front of him, turned over one of the mugs and poured the coffee into it. Afterwards, she measured a tablespoon sugar and emptied it into the coffee before stirring it gently.

She adjusted the mug handle to the left before bowing slightly. "Divertitevi." [Trans: Please enjoy."

Afterwards, she retreated and made her way to attend to another customer.

~Lombardy, Italy~

The living room was very quiet, except for the loud ringtone that suddenly pierced the silence. No one was in the room. A minute later, a man walked into the room and picked up the call.

"Hello. Where are you?"

The person on the line huffed and said, "I'm at your door. Open up."

The man glanced in the direction of the door and swung it open. The woman at the other side of the door flashed him a grin and disconnected the call.

"Brother."

The man nodded. "Take a seat, Paula."

Paula sat and asked, "You wanted to see me, brother."

"Yeah," he replied and took a seat. "It's about Callan."

"Callan?" the lady questioned excitedly. "Is she back? Oh, that bitch. We should hurry and finish her off now."

The man shook his head, obviously annoyed with her behavior. "I haven't found her. Her law firm will also have to shut down in two weeks. I thought it would work to let her panic for her firm and she would have no choice but to appear. Who knew she wouldn't even take the bait?"

The woman slumped into the sofa dispiritedly. "What do we do then? We can't let her take all the inheritance. That foolish old man. How could he write off all his inheritance to her?"

The man clasped his hand and beckoned her to come closer. The woman's eyes glowed when she saw how secretive he was. This could be good news.

He stated, "I have an idea."
