Chapter 139: Old Habits Die Hard

Bryce wasn't sure why he'd invited Addison to dinner with his family. Lord knows she'd turned on the chill again. Maybe he was just a glutton for punishment. That was probably it. He'd never been smart when it came to her, and this was proving that once again.

Pulling up to her building, he parked and headed up to her room. He didn't even have to knock, though, because she was headed his way.

"I was just coming down to the lobby," she said after he'd given her a confused look.

"Well, let's head that way then."

The ride to his place was filled with an awkward silence. He hated it. He hated what they'd become. Things between them had been so easy until recently. He didn't even know when things went to shit. When they got to the house, he took her bag and coat and led her into the kitchen.

"Mom, you remember Addison?"

"Hi there. It's good to see you again. I hope you came hungry."

"It's great to see you too, Mrs.-"
