Chapter 158: TIGHTENING THE NOOSE

Morton just sent another text to his mother," Jess said.

"I'm sure his mother told him we've been trying to get in touch with him. He must be suspicious...I know, I'd be. I'm thinking this text is to throw us off."

"I'm sure he isn't aware we have access to his phone line."

"Let's contact her again and see if she tells us the truth about his visit."

"I can almost guarantee you she's not going to tell us anything more than she has been. She's his mother. What do you think she's going to say?" Jess asked.

"Oh hell, I suppose you're right. But . . ."

Jessie pursed her lips as she slid behind the steering wheel and cranked the engine. Her guilt was replaced by reliving their night of passion when Zach reached for her hand. For the first time in months, she was filled with happiness that settled in her chest. She liked they were communicating again and that terrible awkwardness between them had diminished. They were back to being buddy partners.
