Ten minutes later, Jessie and Kevin returned to her office.
"Okay, let's pick it up where we left off. Do you know of anyone who would want to hurt her?"
Kevin's face flushed with anger. "You mean, besides the fucking junkies, molesters and killers, she put away? I knew this goddamn job was going to kill her."
"Please stop," Jessie said in a low voice. "I didn't say that, Kevin."
"You didn't have to."
Jessie knew she wasn't going to convince him otherwise, so she changed the questions. "Did anyone besides you and Maureen have a key to your apartment?"
"No, no one...not even the cleaning woman."
"Then how did she get in to clean?" Even though she knew the answer based on Nancy Miller's response, she wanted his confirmation.
"Maureen let her in on the mornings unless she had to leave earlier than usual, then she'd ask the manager of security to let her inside."
"Did you know the woman?"
