Today is my birthday, but no one greets me in my social media accounts and even Edge. He even left me alone in the house with a note. He told me in his note said that he went out home early in the morning for an urgent call. And he did not wake me up because I was still in my dreamland. That was weird because every year on my birthdays when I woke up with a bunch of notifications saying that "Happy birthday to you!" but I did not get anything today.
"Heaven Ace, happy 27th birthday to you! Happy birthday, self!" I said it to myself while eating my breakfast before heading out to the school.
I was driving to the school when Venice asked me to fetch her because of another flat tire again.
"Good morning, Heaven!" She greeted me with a bright smile.
"Sorry for the short notice. I can't contact Mason to fetch me now. He's busy right now and out of town." She explained while putting on the seatbelt.
I just nodded and waited for her to add something about my birthday today, but I did not get anything until we arrived at the school.
"Normal day for my birthday as usual if they have forgotten it." I whispered to myself while we were heading into the faculty office.
"What is it?" Venice asked.
"Huh?" I responded with a confused look to her.
"You were saying something?" She asked again.
"Oh! Nothing Ven, I was trying to recall if I locked my house and if I brought everything to me." I said it in a normal tone. Like I was not lying to her.
"If you say so, Heaven." She shrugged.
I went to my class after heading out to the faculty office. It looks like a normal day. I am trying to distract and make myself busy during my morning classes until our lunch break. It seems that everybody forgot my birthday today.
"Did I accidentally change my birth date last night?" I whispered and checked my phone, but I didn't change it.
"You okay?" Kristine asked beside me.
I nodded before putting back my phone in my handbag.
"Are you sure?" Venice asked.
"Yes. I'm fine. I have just had a nightmare again that makes me spacing out today. I just woke up with strange feelings, but I will be fine sooner or later. Let's finish our lunch now." I reasoned out.
They both nodded to me as responses, and they continued eating. I finished my lunch when our co-worker went to the cafeteria. Because Tommy, my former pupil, had a tantrum during their PE class in the mini-gymnasium. They wanted me to assist him in calming down because he had requested my assistance. I rushed there with Venice and Kristine.
I was speechless when we arrived there because all of my former pupils from last year and pupils this year were holding placards and singing a happy birthday song to me.
I held back my tears until Miss Caroline appeared with a cake in the trolley, and Edge was holding a big blue teddy bear and a bouquet of blue roses.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEACHER HEAVEN ACE!" They sang in chorused.
"Thank you, everyone! Thank you, love, thank you, Miss Caroline, thank you besties, and thank you, my dear pupils! I feel blessed and overwhelmed today." I said it is a happy tear.
"I thought you forgot my birthday ...and I was trying to make it a normal day." I added.
They hugged one by one while saying I was welcome before we're headed back to my classroom. We were in the middle of distributing the food to everybody when I received a call from someone. And I excused myself from the classroom.
"Hello? Who's this?" I greeted.
"I'm Winny, your mother. Happy birthday, darling!" She greeted in a happy tone.
"Thank you. But how did you get my number?" I asked while saying thank you to those students who passed by my side.
"You are welcome. I got from your fiancé." She answered.
I have a fiancé? With who? I was not aware of that thing.
"I was trying to reach you out last week in your account, but you seem to be busy so much, and I chatted to Edge for your number." She added as an explanation.
So, Edge was already declaring himself that he was my fiancé without a proposal to me?
"He already asking me for my blessing, and I already give my blessing." She added.
I was speechless about it.
"Invite me to your wedding if it is okay with you and to your father. Okay?" She said.
I was too stunned to process what she said, so I just agreed with her without hesitation.
"You're too quiet, darling. Did I spill something that you did not know yet?" She asked worriedly.
"Uhmm, nothing mother. I have to go now because we're in the middle of celebrating my birthday in my classroom." I said it as an excuse to end the call.
"Okay, darling. Happy birthday again, and I will send my gift to you later. I love you!" She said before hanging up.
I was preoccupied the whole afternoon about the Edge declaring to my mother that he is officially my fiancé now, but we have not talked about it due to my sudden break-up with him last time. Until we were finally finishing our classes, I wanted to ask Edge about it, but I did not dare to talk about it because I might be ruining his plan about our agreement last time. I keep my mouth shut until we reached our home. I prepared for our private dinner celebration tonight, with my family, my besties, and Edge's family to some fancy restaurant that I reserved last week.
I wore a simple white puff dress along with white strap sandals. I let down my black wavy hair and I put a minimal make-up. I brought myself my favorite handbag for my things. When I was done dressing up, I saw Edge wearing a white polo shirt, fitted jeans, and tan bucks shoes. We look like we're going out for a date as in just the two of us.
"Let's go? They were waiting already there for us, Miss Celebrant." He said.
I just nodded and headed out first.
I stayed quiet as long as I can, but he already noticed it after he parked the car.
"Something wrong, love?" He worriedly asked.
"Nothing serious, love. I was just excited and happy to our dinner tonight." I assured him with a fake smile.
"Are you sure?" He asked for one time.
I held his hand and looked into his eyes as I said, "Yes love."
"Okay. Let's go." He said as a relief.
He opened the car door for me.
"Such a gentleman." I commented while putting my arms to his.
"Of course, my love." He agreed.
I giggled and had a little chitchat while we're heading to the restaurant.
"HAPPY 27th BIRTHDAY!" They all greeted me again.
"Aww, thank you so much!" I said surprisingly and hugged them one by one.
I saw the pile of gifts in the corner of the function hall where we are right now.
We were having a great night with a bunch of chitchats and laughing about our lives. For one hour or three, I was about to forget the thing about Edge being my fiancé.
But in a minute, I was stunned. When Edge was kneeling in front of me, our family, and friends with a simple diamond engagement ring while saying this to me.
"Heaven Ace de Torres, for the eight years we have been through together, I knew for the first time I saw you in the bus terminal… I knew you were the one for me for the rest of my life. I knew we already planned for this a long time ago, but things messed months ago. I just wanted to be with you until our last breath, and this is what I thought was the best solution, for now, to make our plan come true. In front of them, the persons behind our journey together, I want them to witness how much we love each other since day one until now so, I am Engineer Royce Edge Sullivan. Will you be with me until my last breath? Will you marry me, Miss Author?"
I was already crying, decided to say.
"Yes, Edge, yes! I do! I want to be with you until our last breath." I answered it happily from the heart, mind, and soul.
He put the ring on my finger, pulled me into a tight hug, and kissed me in front of everyone.
Everybody is cheering for us about his planned wedding proposal.
"Ayieee, soon-to-be Mrs. Heaven Ace de Torres-Sullivan!" My gals cheered up.
"Congrats to both of you!" They all said in chorus.
He hugged me around my waist while he kissed me from my forehead.
I am still on cloud 9 for what happened earlier because I was getting an idea when my mother spilled some tea about it, but I think if I decided it right. After all, I love him that much despite our agreement of our break-up months ago.
"I hope this is for the best for the two of us after all." I said it to myself before going to sleep.
