Bright clear eyes looked up at the labcoats as words were whispered into her ears, a guide for the future children within the safety of the dome, created in hopes to keep humanity surviving…
The clattering of tools on a silver table could be heard as a fist was slammed onto it, a frustrated man looming over the table while a small girl, seeming to be around five years looked at him calmly, tilting her head slightly at the frustrated man. "Why are you angry?" her voice piped up curiously.
The man looked up at the girl before letting a sigh, "We don't have much time. I thought we would but you must guide the others to a better future within those walls" Though he had doubted the girl would understand fully what he meant, however, a slight hope was that she did. After all, she was created with the DNA used by the creature they had captured and that of an already pregnant woman. Of course, that had only been a few years back and the girl already seemed to be a successful test subject.
The little girl frowned a bit as she shook her head "I wish not to go back there, why now?" she questioned the scientist but all he did was shake his head and held out his hand for the girl to take. "No more questions Amarylis" he stated coolly, the only subject to of gotten a proper name from them, their star project and made to guide the others in the hope all this was a success. A huge burden on one child but, he was sure she understood. After all, she was created from the DNA of an alien who came to this earth to warn them and had shown many times to be high in intelligence compared to them. "Time will tell, for now, you must do as you are told," he said.
They would walk in silence for a good while before pausing at a sealed tight door, a pause before the scientist turned to look at the girl, bending down he placed his hands on her shoulders gently, like that of a father coaching his own son. "You will know what to do. Soon as these doors shut behind you, I cannot open them again. Everything will turn out well in the end" he promised, noticing a sad look in the little girl's eyes "This is farewell then…" she said softly as he nodded.
Getting up off his knees, he would take his hands off the child's shoulder before opening the door and leading her in. "One last piece of advice, when you need to go scouting soon as the world…is gone, the dome opens up over there" The scientist pointed towards two giant sealed doors, hidden well by giant sycamore trees from the outside. The girl nodded before letting a soft smile cross her lips "Thank you."
Those would be the last time she spoke any words to the scientist and anyone from the lab before she too would begin her wait for the ones chosen to save them and to come to free them like trapped birds in their clear cage meant to protect them from the dangers yet to come, watching over them, and guiding them as she was asked to do.
