On their way, the next tremor caused the ground to shift, and huge cracks opened underneath them. They swiftly jumped over it. The others ran to more secure ground. Dirk hoped that their equipment would hold and not get lost in all of the rubbish; then the mission would be aborted and they would have to be back looking for another strategy.


With a loud screech the hovercraft broke loose from the trailer in the next tremor, and all their attention was drawn to it. They watched in dread as it dropped into the water, tilting dangerously to one side and then rebounding, sending a spray of red water into the air. With the splash a grotesque animal landed on the ground. They watched the deformed creature as it shook the excess water from its fur. Its feet were amphibian like leaving slimy footprints as it moved around.
