Blood Mines

A thump outside the door made them stare wide-eyed at the door. Tanya didn’t want to think what could be out there as Dirk shone the torch directly at the door. 


Seeing nothing, he looked at his watch, they had ten minutes of air left. They had no time to waste. 


They slowly followed the hose, another thud let them to a halting stop and Dirk showed her to wait. He pulled the handle and immediately the door opened enough so that he could scan the outside perimeter. 


There, directly in front of them was another snake. Not as large as the one they killed on the surface, but still large enough to cause serious harm to them both. 


No, correction: His venom was deadly before the quake. Now being bigger he had a greater advantage, and his bite would be lethal. His beady eyes flashed at them both with a devilish gleam, his tongue flickered as he tasted the water around him.
