Part 2: Chapter 22: Measel outbreak

Without fail Tau accompanied her to the medical tent. They never talked. She followed him through the camp as people stared at her. His presence gave her some sense of peace as she locked her gaze on his back.

This morning there was a shift in the air. Tau's back was taught, his attention vigilant as they crisscrossed through the camp to the medical tent. A distinct sense of foreboding alerted her. Alarmed she noticed every detail about the camp. Machine guns, which were normally propped against trunks, were held tightly by the soldiers as they scanned the area. All the canoes and the motorised fisher boat lined the bank. The men stood around uncertain and the children were unusual quiet. At first sight everything seemed peaceful, even harmonious. Then why was she uneasy?
