Saving the Young Miss

After running for some time and confirming that there was no monster pursuing them, Randol and the young lady halted. Taking a few deep breaths, Randol said to the young lady..

"Young Miss, we should rest here for a bit. I'm exhausted, If we keep running forward, I fear I may not be able protect you..."

"Uhn.." the young lady nodded with hazy eyes before finding a suitable spot to sit down. She sat with her knees clutched to her chest, taking labored breaths.

Randol observed the surrounding to ensure there was not a single beast in sight before he sat down with a sigh. He began to rummage inside his bag for a few seconds before pulling out a piece of bread.

He extended to the young lady without raising his head and said " Young Miss, Eat this first.. I should have another one here, i just have to find it..."

But he got no reply from the young lady, raising his head to look at her.

"What... Leave the young miss alone!"

A Frog had the young lady in its arms, its body was constantly emitting poisonous smoke that clouded the environment in pungent, green mist. Randol unconsciously took a whiff of the smoke and his body instantly went stiff...

Loads of sweat was pouring from his body and his body was shriveling up at an alarming rate. The young lady was in worse condition, it seemed she had fallen unconscious...her skin had taken a grey hue and her hair was gradually falling off.

At this moment, a nonchalant voice sounded

" How have you not realized how gross you are?"

Matt's figure slowly came into view, his head was slightly tilted and curiosity was all over his face. A gun appeared in his hand and he slowly raised it, aiming it at the head of the poisonous frog.

The frog put down the young lady and stared at Matt as if wondering why its poison was ineffective on him. It let a loud croak and charged at Matt.

Matt waited for it to leap high up in the sky before pulling the trigger.

Bang!

The shot caught the frog by surprise as it fell down and pus was leaking form the hole in its head.Angrily, It opened its mouth and spat out a glob of poisonous slime.

Matt graciously evaded it and shot the gun thrice consecutively at the hole in its head. The frog wobbled a bit before collapsing.

"Poison-type beasts...Gross but interesting" Matt let out a slight chuckle. While Poison-type beasts were very dangerous, to a cyborg, they were just a piece of joke.

Matt walked up to the poisoned pair lying on the ground and observed their condition.

'They don't have much time left...this poison preys directly on their life force' He frowned 'I need an antidote'

He began to access the data PlaneNet gave him, shuffling through the jumble of data, he found only one sentence on poison-type beasts. It seemed like they knew Poison-type beasts posed the least threat to him but the one sentence was extremely helpful.

"...in most cases, the antidote to a Poison-type beast is located directly beneath its core."

'Beneath its core'

Matt hurried to the corpse of the Frog and in one swift motion, he split the head into two, revealing a shiny green core. He pulled out the core revealing a sac. Grabbing the sac, he hurried to Randol and was about pour the antidote into his mouth when Randol opened and said with a bitter smile

"Don't worry about me..." his voice was gradually growing weaker"...save the...young...miss...pui!" He spat out a mouthful of pungent dark blood and closed his eyes, never to open them again.

"What..."Matt stared at the body lying motionlessly before in shock. He had never seen a human die before. While the knowledge in his brain contained a lot of gory scenes and information, seeing it person was a bit overwhelming...

Suddenly, his brain whirred back into action as he recalled Randol's last words.

"Shit!"

He lifted the young lady, pity filling his eyes. Though he could discern from her body build that she was young, she looked no different from an old woman at death bed. Her skin was wrinkled all over with a gray sheen covering it.

Sparing no time, he pried open her mouth and poured the antidote in. Her body shook a little but she showed no signs of waking up. Matt was not bothered as he could see that her condition was slowly stabilizing. He laid her down gently and stood up staring far into the distance.

He could four beasts heading straight at their location. Crouching a bit, he let out a muffled grunt and with a whoosh, appeared a few meters away form the beasts. He could finally see the beasts clearly.
