They stayed away from each other for the rest of that night. Constance cried herself to sleep in their bedroom whilst countless thoughts raced around Asher's mind as he slept on the sofa in the living room. Neither of them managed to fall asleep that night; it was as if the sky had finally decided to make its landing on them without any warning.

It took both of them a full day to take in the news that Asher was slowly morphing into a wolf. Most of the physical changes had taken place on his upper body, but a few canine features that had developed a little here and there had confirmed that the rest of his body was about to undergo the same process.

In the morning, Constance got up in complete silence and sat down next to Asher on the sofa.

"Are you angry?" he mumbled, staring at the ground.

"No," she said.

After a moment of silence, Constance cracked a tight smile. "To me, you're still the Asher I know. Even if you've changed physically, I can still tell it's you."

"And why is that?" he nervously shifted his gaze a little upwards.

She shrugged. "You're just as awkward as ever."

It was a light joke, but Asher never took her sense of humor for granted. A part of him twisted on itself inside once more, like the pain he felt taking care of the patients at work. He never thought that one day, he'd feel the same way with the one person he loved.
