what ifs are the most cruel slow grenade

In Cecilia's garden, we sit on a huge flowery scarf covering the floor and drink the iced tea she infused with strawberries. It's hot, it's summer, and for once I forget life has been this harsh on us.

"Cecilia, so what did Mitch tell you?"

Well, almost.

"The redhead?"

"Who else?"

"Well, he does not buy this scientific explanation theory. And apparently, he wants me to come ask for more details. He left me on a hella cliffhanger."

"What else, Cecilia? We heard rumors that we won't believe until you suggest we should."

"Well, yes, he's my dad, or atleast that's what he said. But the weirdest part is when he pretends to be Evan's dad too. That Evan and I are cousins and brothers simultaneously."

"But wait... When we get to be in that community, then what?"

"We can raise an utopic world. Didn't you want it?"

"I want to help a little, but not raise an utopic world. We can't change human nature, Cece, and people are essentially greedy."

We sat there and no one really said a thing.

Free as we were during the summer, we started going there everyday. We ended up getting rooms to sleep in and moving in with our moms. We spent our days configuring undercover cameras and system algorithms to catch those who were to be catched. But mostly, we were relying on Cecilia and Mitch who might have a vision. We did quite some research about Mitch and what we found out wasn't as pleasant as we would've liked it to be.

He hadn't been taken seriously in The Energy Unit aka League since 1995 because he started questioning the theories guiding them and reportedly had kids with the Robins sisters : Iris and Isabel, Evan's mom. But of course, no one had the nerve to get rid of him as he was the only Anticipator.

Cecilia got inside Mitch's office, fishing for answers and more evidence to know where she stands. But with a little twist this time; she wouldn't go there alone. Both of us stepped into the shining room. Mitch was scrolling through Instagram in his laptop, which was giving us a full view of the feed. He was on a trial to prove everyone wrong and wear the 'nice guy's skin'.

Cecilia started with the questions, cheeks rosy red with anger and frustration, her voice running out of breath.

"First, what do you think these visions are?"

"Reflections of our fears, that's why the anticipation thing didn't work since long ago."

"What about the bank thing? And Brian?"

"You know what, do as you like. But don't come at me when you regret it."

"And why did you make that idiot Evan my brother?"

"So you're telling me you would've preferred not to exist? He was there beforehand."

We got out of the office, tried to think a little clearly. But before we could figure anything out, nothing existed anymore.
