-----------Nemesis' POV------
Both Mary and Lydia weren't even fighting seriously at first until Mary decided to make a powerful blow to Lydia. I could see the seriousness in both of their eyes as they stare at each other for a few moments. After a bit the two of them began chanting powerful spells towards each other while preparing for close combat at the same time. The two of them may specialize in magic but they are still very powerful when it comes to hand to hand combat. While Mary was chanting her surroundings was being filled with a cold atmosphere that slowly turned into an ice storm. If I'm not mistaken she is chanting a spell called 'Icy Hell'. A spell that causes tremors and storms filled with icy cold tornadoes and waves to the surroundings of the caster.
If the arena wasn't so large the rest of us would probably feel a chill but I think it's really because of the spell that Lydia is casting. Lydia was casting the fire counterpart to the Icy Hell spell called Volcanic Eruption. The spell literally spawned molten magma along with powerful flames to form together into tornadoes around the user.
When the two of them finished chanting their spells, quite the spectacle happened. The moment the two spells collided it caused a giant explosion in between the two, blowing both of them back. In the middle of the explosion however is what was astounding to me. Normally as long as the user still had mana these spells would keep going and wouldn't stop until they ran out.
However the spells were cancelled right away and the fire and ice cancelled each other out. The big thing here though was that the magma was still somehow active and was only very slowly cooling down. When I look at the sight of this it's as if the two of them are fighting as if their life depended on it.
-----------POV Change To Mary---------
Ugh. Thankfully that blast sent me flying because if I was still near it I would have taken serious damage from Lydia's spell. That power is amazing, it's no wonder she is the elder subordinate. However I can't give up now even if my opponent is more powerful I still have a trump card that was bestowed upon me by the Great Lord. I have prayed every day and night to him hoping for his grace and blessings.
I believe that the only one who doesn't revere him like a god is his own son. I would like to share his benevolence across the world and open up many churches for his grace. It's time for me to use the skill that's given to those who have gone beyond being an apostle of The Great Lord and become a nun of the church! Lydia stares at me in wonder for a few seconds as we both recover from the blast when I start chanting a new spell.
"Using the power that flows through my very existence given to me by the Great Lord--" As I was chanting Lydia started charging at me, completely giving up on trying to cast another spell. However I didn't stop but just ignored her and continued.
"--I call upon the beginning of all Light and the Endless darkness to defeat my foe for the benevolent god that is Nemesis---" Lydia was inches in front of me before she started to thrust her weapon towards me but I managed to finish the chant at the last second.
"--the power of Yin and Yang Collide, Oblivion!" The moment I finished the chant I disappeared from Lydia's sight as she was surrounded by blinding light on one side and pitch black darkness on the other. When they collided she was met with an endless void as I watched her in the background. I somehow managed to win, or so I thought. For some reason she began a chant herself that sounded similar to mine except for the last line.
(Lydia)" In the name of the Great Lord Nemesis, release me from this endless prison, Nirvana!" When she finished the very reality of that void cracked and she was released from the prison by a deep blue light. It can't be, is she somehow also a nun of the church? No that can't be I don't even know that skill, she must have gone even further beyond and became a priest!
How though? I don't understand if I go to the church more than her and pray all the time, unless. Wait this makes sense because she was around much longer than I have and was probably praying and revering The Great Lord before me. It looks like I lost before this even started. I don't regret fighting her however because she opened up a new light for me to try even harder from now on in everything I do.
When she came out of the void I bowed to her and gave up because I saw that my loss would be inevitable at that point.
-----------POV Change To Nemesis------
I was honestly left dumbfounded by the whole thing that just unfolded. Am I actually some sort of god? I guess I am if my name is literally in the chant of a spell for a skill. However I'm wondering when and how the hell they learned those skills? Did it come from the church that was built? Did it come from regular prayer? Damnit to many questions and zero answers. I'll figure it out later. I need to focus on what is in front of me now.
Lydia won the first practice match and it looks like Divinus is about to jump out of his seat so I had everyone gather again to let the arena fix itself. Since that fight took a lot longer than I thought it would, I told everyone that another match would be held tomorrow. They looked visibly sad after I said that but accepted it nonetheless. On the way to the mansion I decided to take a look at the church after a while and both Mary and Lydia looked very happy when I said that.
