Inside the room, there were three single beds, spread out evenly on the back side of the room. There was a table and chair next to each bed and a tiny bathroom. Ernon knew it wasn't even worth using. On the far corner, there was a fairly large cupboard which was used to store unimportant things for the stay.
The room was carefully designed for candidates to feel as little pleasure as possible from the stay. The candidates were expected to train and practice. And after a week of training, they do the final exam(the tier two test) If you fail, you get sent home immediately. And if you succeed, you get a certificate of enrollment and you will be recruited within a week.
Caleb fell onto his bed. "What do you want to do?" he asked.
"Don't you have to unpack?" Robin asked meekly, as he took his clothes out of his bag.
Caleb shurgged and said "I'll do it later"
Meanwhile, Ernon was thinking about getting some practice in before the proper training starts. He wondered if the others would like to join him. "I was thinking of heading down to the practicing area to get in some training before the real thing starts. We might as well learn how each training works, but I know you guys might not want to because it's the first day-"
Caleb jumped up from his bed. "Yeah that's a great idea" he said enthusiastically. "I can use some training..."
Ernon and Caleb looked at Robin. "You guys go ahead, I'll catch up after I unpack" he said with a smile.
So the two boys made their way to the training centre. There went the wrong way a couple of times but with the help of some of the staff, they reached the practice area. They tried some of the simulations but they were extremely hard.
'If the test's are going to be like this, I have no chance of passing' Ernon thought. 'I need to work harder'
After some more exercises, both boys were worn out. Robin came running down the corridor, waving as he did so, a big smile on his face. Caleb grinned. The two of them didn't talk much but Robin was happy to talk to Ernon. He felt a special attachment to him.
But Ernon's reaction changed when two boys appeared from either end of the corridor. Ernon knew that it was a setup. They had been planning in, it wasn't a coincidence. The two boys had a sly smile on their faces and they started to walk towards Robin.
He realized what was happening and the expression on his face turned from a smile to pure horror. He started to take a few steps back but was quickly cornered. Ernon was frozen in fear, he didn't know what to do.
"Come on, what are you waiting for, let's help him" shouted Caleb, who was running towards the bullies. Ernon didn't know whether he should get involved. It wouldn't be a good impression if any of the staff found out. But he knew he couldn't leave Robin, he was the only one that truely understood him.
Caleb stopped just behind the two bullies. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?" he shouted. One of the bullies turned around. He had an evil smile on his face. "Look Marlin, another toy" he said to the boy called Marlin.
Marlin grabbed Robin's shirt and pushed him to his knees, telling him to beg for mercy. But Robin couldn't talk. He was white as a ghost and he looked as if he was going to cry. His face was red with bruises. Ernon felt an overwhelming urge to charge them, but he knew he had to play it smart. He waited.
Meanwhile, the other kid, who was much taller than Caleb, looked down at him and smiled, showing all his yellow teeth. He grabbed Caleb's T-shirt with both hands and smashed him in a wall. Caleb let out a cry of pain and sank to the floor.
Ernon refused to let keep going. Robin's heavy breathing echoed down the hallway but nobody was there to help. The other bully turned towards Robin. Both were too preoccupied to see a boy wearing shades and a strange mask walking towards them. As you may have guessed, it was Ernon Stellar.
He had built quite a reputation with the disguise, and he swore to himself never to use it again. But he knew he had to teach the bullies a lesson. He quickly ran back to his room and took out the shades and mask.
He walked by, as if he was oblivious to the scene that was taking place. Then he kicked the boy called Marlin at the back of his leg causing him to loose balance. He let go of Robin, who fell into a sitting position on the floor.
"Ernon?" Robin whimpered.
"Why did you do that?" Malin shouted angrily.
"To see how long it takes for me to beat both of you in a fight" Ernon said with a smile. "Looks like we have another one to play with, Brogan, Lucky us" Marlin said with a fierce look. He wasn't smiling anymore. Nor was Brogan.
Robin didn't know how to react to this. He wasn't feeling quite sure about how this fight was going to go down. He was glad that Ernon was about to go into a fight that was impossible to win. Ernon didn't seem like the fighting type but his confidence scared Robin.
Sadly, people like Marlin and Brogan were going to pop up in places like this, where power and money is everything. You're either extremely rich or poor. No one is in the middle. That's why kids like them apply to join the ISA in the first place.
'It's like a food web' thought Robin. The newer bullies were more than likely bullied in the past. Now they are out for revenge, but on the people who were weaker than they were. That's the inevitable truth, no one can change that. You have to fight for your own survival.
Robin sighed. He didn't want to think of the thousands of possible ways this could go down horribly wrong for Ernon...
