Chapter

The offense this time had been exposed.

Many would not have understood the indirect lack of respect but if he knew something it was that the president of the company was not one of them. Keeping her gaze straight ahead to make as little eye contact as possible, Serena savored the success of the effect she had caused admiring the man she had so regretted meeting with concealed anger.

" And the lateness?" he asked firmly, positioning himself in front of her solemnly, his hands in his pockets with a stern gaze scanning her almost amber eyes.

Serena began to experience the strong beat of her heart, which was pumping threatening to stop without hesitation. Her drumming took over her ears, yet her gaze was still in front of her but that of the man in front of her was forcing her to look at him.

" I'm going to tell you what I think about belatedness, Miss Jean, of yours to be specific ..." he continued when he didn't get any answers.

"I have not been late, sir," she interrupted with the same calm voice as her boss.

"I advise you to deny your mistake," he continued automatically.

The battle of arguments was on and she had no intention of losing it. If she lived accepting advice then she would not live, she started to get angry, if he was so good at giving advice ... why didn't he put it into practice himself? he was the one who would do her a great favor if he denied his mistake.

"It's not ... A good example to correct without correction, sir," she snapped, successively catching his eyes with hers.

In a millisecond he took a step towards her and she stepped back "don't terminate my patience," he said as a muscle stood out on his cheek and they looked at each other with defiance, making the place a laid-back environment.

There was a knock on the door.

The first to leave the duel of gazes was her, who still with a cold gaze went to answer the door, it was Kim.

"Mr. Holmes ... the meeting with Mr. Wang is just beginning," she said firmly but her usual smile this time had been replaced by an expression of inquisitiveness.

Her boss instead put himself together and shot a frosty look at Serena before heading for the door without any sign of appreciation from the two women in his company.

The tasks were more scattered in the afternoon, but that was for all those who were not in conflict with his boss.

Unfortunately for her, she was not one of those privileged ones; Which she found when she was deliberately brought in documents to review and write last minute before lunch, it was clear that someone had taken her bluntness wrong.

She flicked her fingers over the keyboards. She could have taken care of the paperwork after eating but she would run the risk of working late or having back work, just what she shouldn't give herself on the first day; so skipping lunch and finishing her chores so that she could have the honor of losing everything that linked her to her boss was a great idea.

After a few hours, she sighed and was silent. She didn't know why she was doing it but unconsciously her body didn't even want him to hear it breathe.

She rubbed her temple with exhaustion while she put away all her work. With a glance at her wristwatch, she realized that her companions had finished the day for half an hour and the silence in the face of her lack of activity confirmed it.

She looked vehemently towards the door that connected both offices, it seemed that he could even perceive that she was looking at him or any movement that she made.

Serena turned off the computer. How absurd. She reluctantly divert her gaze to the screen of her mobile, she could already start to pick up her stuff to be able to leave, a hard day for a night with no strings attached; Nothing will make her happier than heading home, taking a good shower, and ordering fast food to keep her company in the horror movies set for tonight.

She got up and straightened her seat to continue gathering her things.

Why did she have to be thinking about him?

Well, wasn't she supposed to have the enemy close to her? then it was the only thing she was fulfilling, from afar of course.

Behind her front door, she turned off the lights, ready to mark the end of a day full of crosses, and just as she held the handle about to turn it she stopped all of her movements abruptly, her fingers hovering around the handle as she paid attention. She could hear footsteps in the hallway and what was now opening was the office next door.

"Daddy! Daddy!".

The sharp voice echoed all over the place, her hands shivered holding the handle, it was a girl, it was the happy voice of a girl that flooded the adjoining office as did the laughter of her boss.

She was his daughter.

She remained frozen in able to turn the handle. Her heart came out of her chest as if the planet was slipping off her axis. Perhaps it was not right to harbor such feelings but it was inevitable for her to feel an intense hatred that was accompanied by a will with enough potential, which, just after melting, left an intense pain of uncertainty.

The wild eyes, the sound waves capturing all information and bringing it to her mind for it to be processed.

"He has a daughter"

The phrase echoed over and over again, on different notes to the recesses of her mind. And she felt begun to feel suffocated as if the air could not reach her lungs as her heart was infected with affliction; with regret for her, with every feeling that provoked all the dreadful memories in her.

Her gaze traveled to the next door and she had to make a great effort to stay on her feet, you could hear them talking and laughing; In consideration of the loudest voice, her mind began to assemble the possible image of the little carrier of contagious laughter.

Was it really his daughter?

Serena had to blink continuously to avoid the inevitable tears but it happened, the heavy drops began to slide down her cheeks.

She did not have to be gifted to finally see after so many years that he had abandoned her not only for that woman but also for a daughter of his. He had abandoned them to have a family with another woman. And without looking back, just like her when she signed.

She finally opened the door and ran through the deserted corridor in tears, she was glad that there was no one to witness it, but in the same way, even though the building was full at the moment; surely they would have gone just as unnoticed.

The lift bottom was pressed in a hurry, she wanted to leave immediately, and when the metal elevator doors finally secured her inside them, she realized that now her hatred was divided. She did not only hate her boss but also or perhaps especially his daughter, who may now be the same age as the one that had once been hers.
