I felt Huo Long tense up; its claws raked the floor around me as if it wanted to lift a paw off, but didn’t.
“Impossible!” It hissed, its hate-filled eyes turning to me but for a fraction of a second before returning to Marduk, who hadn’t moved from his spot. “It would take millennia for her to be reincarnated, not a few centuries, and there is no way she would reincarnate into the same culture.” It glared at the other dragon. “You’re lying.”
“I am not.” Marduk straightened up, also noticing the change in how the red dragon was holding me. “If you weren’t such a coward, you would see for yourself.”
I didn’t know what the other dragon was trying to do, but even I could tell that insulting Huo Long was a bad idea, and I braced myself to feel more pain. Instead, the red dragon glared at its brother.
