Chapter 125

"That's a good question." I said, a patient grimace on my face, "One I'd love to answer once you stop doing this to Thresh." I pointed to Thresh who was shaking in a cold sweat.

It terrified me that Thresh wasn't able to withstand this man. And I was also worried for him.

Kratos laughed, "Ah, I see. You're his Beta's mate."

I drew up short, but quickly covered it up with an aloof facade, "Maybe, let him go."

"Ah, ah, ah. Almost there."

I wanted to slap him, if he delved any deeper into Thresh's mind, he'd find out about the Haven and other things that I'm sure Thresh had a reason for keeping hidden.

I stepped forward so I was only a foot from the throne, man this guy was full of himself, "Stop it."

"Take your coat off."

I let out a snort. I couldn't believe this guy. I shook my head, whatever. I was wearing another sweater underneath and it's not like I would undress for this man. I swallowed in absolute disgust at that thought.

I unzipped my winter coat and folded it holding it on my hip, hoping I looked confident.

He did one quick look up my body then focused on my face. I watched him as he continued to stare. Eventually I looked away, still feeling his burning gaze on my face.

Thresh was panting and holding his head in his hand. I stepped in front of him and mouthed, "You okay?"

He nodded, a look of pain and humiliation on his face.

"So, I stopped. Aren't you going to tell me what you are?" Kratos's expectant voice spoke.

I turned with a big smile on my face, "Of course. I'm a human."

He frowned and looked at Thresh, "Seriously, what is she?"

I rolled my eyes and stretched my back. I realized, I was hungry. I hadn't really eaten anything substantial in a day. I had had breakfast yesterday and a few little munchables at Dart's, but that was it. I had pegged my stomach feeling queasy to uneasiness but I now saw that it was hunger.

"I don't know." I heard Thresh say next to me as I began scanning the room for food. But now that I thought about it, I wasn't sure that I wanted to eat anything here.

Kratos laughed, "Isn't that a first?" He said sarcastically.

"Brother, we need to talk. Is there someplace we can speak privately?" Thresh asked bitingly. I could tell that he really did not like his brother, I couldn't blame him, in the last few minutes I'd known him I had wanted to slap that creepy face every time a word came out of his mouth.

"Sure, once she takes off her coat."

I laughed, "Ooh, no."

He just smirked, "Alright, then we're not talking. I know you need something from me brother, but I'm not giving it till she removes her coat."

Thresh growled and the room silenced. I raised my head as I could feel the tension thick in the air.

'Ho boy.' I thought as Thresh and Kratos stared each other down. I sighed, this was going nowhere. We were headed down the same path that we'd taken with Dart.

I stepped between the two and could practically feel the power radiating off of the two individuals.

"Stop. You are both being children, you," I pointed to Kratos, "Stop asking me to take my coat off. And you," I turned to Thresh, "I don't know, you haven't done anything wrong." I waved him off.

Turning back to Kratos I crossed my arms around my midriff, "Now, I'm sure you can find a private room, where you two can speak."

He just smirked and got up from his throne revealing his height, around the same as Thresh's.

I followed them as they walked to the far left of the room and into a large office looking room.

"Out, ladies." I looked to a corner of the room and saw two topless women. I blinked and looked away to the desk.

I heard a few giggles and then the door shut and it was just Thresh, Kratos and me.

Kratos told us to sit in the tan leather chairs opposite the desk while he sat in an imposing, black leather, office chair.

He rested his elbows on the table, supporting his head on his clasped hands, "Well now, brother. Do tell."

I watched both of them warily as they began to stare each other down once more. Kratos's channel was still alluding me, I could sense it just out of reach, it was like trying to catch a rainbow.

"I need some of your forces." Thresh spoke, I suppose this is the same thing that he'd said to Dart but I'd passed out.

Kratos smiled and said in a mocking tone, "Hah, and why would Thresh: The Conqueror of the Rocky Mountains, need my help?"

I could see a muscle tick in Thresh's jaw, "There was an attack."

"Oh, really? An attack where?" Kratos seemed to be enjoying this.

"On a place that holds much power."

"And… would I be a recipient of this power if I helped you?"

"No. But you will receive a gift of some sort I'm sure."

Kratos nodded, apparently appeased by this answer, "What about her? Why is she here?" He turned his icy focus back to me.

I just stared coolly at him while Thresh answered him, "She is here strictly as an assistant."

'Gee, thanks Thresh.'

"No… that's not it. She's special…" He continued to stare at me then his expression changed as if he realized something, "I recognize this, it's just like-"

"Brother." Thresh stopped him, a hint of urgency in his voice. My brows furrowed at the exchange. 'Just like what?'

"Will you help?" Thresh asked.

Kratos's eyes were still glued on me but in a more curious way than before, "I'll think about it."

Thresh just stood and walked from the room, "Hey! Where are you-" I called.

-I have to make a call.- He replied.

-Yeah, well it better not be to Raph, or else I'll come out there and smack you upside the head.- I turned back and saw that Kratos was still riveted with me.

I rolled my eyes and got up to look out side the large floor to ceiling window to the right of the room.

"You can mind link?"

I turned with a calm expression on my face to look at him. I figured that he would find out sooner or later.

"Hmm, interesting." He stroked his chin, seemingly pondering this, "How?"

I narrowed my eyes, "I assume it's the same with your gift."

He smiled and chuckled at an unknown joke as he rested his head on his chair, "It's no gift. It's a curse."
