CH9 (373), Curious Indeed

Well, that left me with the final significant event that happened during the last 5 months, Tatsumaki/Kadabra's evolution. She had finally mastered the sixth and final move required for her evolution a bit less than two months ago.

She had been quite excited when it happened and straight away teleported over to me to report her success. I botched up a potion I was making for the Rattata, but it was not worth complaining about compared to the news she brought.

We obviously called everyone over for the event and once they made it over, I pulled out everything I had prepared for this moment. I had gone all out while preparing the lotion and the potion for Tatsumaki and I had literally burned a fortune until I managed to create the best ones I could manage at the moment.

I did not apply the lotion on her, as Tatsumaki levitated the salve and applied it herself using her telekinesis. She also drank the potion on her own, so I stepped out of the psychic circle I set up around her, and gave her the go-ahead once she said that she was ready.

The light of evolution came and I was happy to note that her evolution took close to a minute. Exceeding the usual evolution period was a good sign in my books.

The light died down and only a bit more than 2.5 years after her evolution to Kadabra, Tatsumaki had evolved to Alakazam. There was no visible difference compared to a regular Alakazam, aside from her height being 180 cm compared to the usual 160 cm.

I would have to take a look at her status screen to see what exactly had caused her longer evolution time, but I first went up to congratulate her, along with everyone else.

Still, I did check her status after that, and I could proudly say that she had made quite the progress since her evolution to Kadabra more than 2.5 years ago.

Well, all my efforts were worth it seeing how close her potential had come to reaching purple. It was nice to see my hard work being rewarded, a 33% increase during evolution with light purple potential was extraordinary as far as my experience on the matter went.

Moreover, I was hopeful that I might be able to help her reach purple potential before she broke through to the gold stage, seeing how I managed to increase her potential by about 7% in 2.5 years, which was roughly what she needed to push her to the next level.

Anyway, her modifier column was empty, but the talent section explained her longer evolution time. Still, I had to chuckle when I saw what her new talent was called since Mega Mind made me think of a blue dude with an extra big head, which was something the Alakazam species was known for. Well, the big head part not the color.

The talent itself was one of the best ones I had seen so far, and just as the name implied it had to do with Tatsumaki's great mental capacity, but it was not limited to that. It increased her parallel processing power and raised her comprehension.

While this gave her an easier time learning new moves, as well as deriving other moves from those she already knew, the main focus of Mega Mind was to increase the speed at which Tatsumaki could master her moves.

From what I saw, Mega Mind belonged to the same talent group as Mothra/Butterfree's talent, and it was even around the same level as her talent as well, but while Mothra's talent focused more on learning new moves and less on mastering them, Tatsumaki's talent was the opposite.

Regardless, the talents of that group were insanely rare, not to mention ones at this level. Yet, two of my Pokemon had unlocked such abilities, so protagonist-grade luck and Utopia banzai, I guess.

All in all, I could say that if Alakazam's fabled super brain could be seen as a hardware upgrade, then Mega Mind was a just as great software update for Tatsumaki.

Anyway, after learning about her talent I could not stop myself from thinking yet when I saw that she still had no quirks. I blame my brain for connecting the talent name to the big-headed blue guy since that one was quite eccentric. Hopefully, nothing in that direction happened, it was not quite as funny if it happened in one's proximity.

Her parameters were quite good as well, especially considering that Tatsumaki's main focus for the last year or two had been mastering her moves. That two of her parameters were already at SS was impressive, even if that was related to her aforementioned move training, with both being connected to energy.

Besides, I had a feeling that it would not take long until her last two parameters reached S as well, which would let her complete her first round of limit-breaking.

Unfortunately, her resistance training was less successful since she had yet to successfully standardize her bug-type weakness. Still, I was hoping to change that, now that Tatsumaki could focus on other things besides raising her move mastery.

Well, at least her being so focused on mastering the 6 required moves for her evolution helped push her psychic energy manipulation to mastery, which was a first for any of my Pokemon. Reaching this stage was quite a bonus since it helped curb any energy wastage as well as reduce the energy she spent on her moves.

I was also sure that it would give her the possibility to learn any psychic move as long as she had a rough understanding of the concept behind the move, and boy did that mesh with Mega Mind.

Speaking of moves, Tatsumaki had a pretty respectable number of those, even if the number was lower than that of many others in our family, not to mention the absurd number Mothra had thanks to her talent.

Nonetheless, as far as mastery, or rather mastered moves was concerned, Tatsumaki was the undisputed number one, especially when one took into account that each of her mastered moves were extremely useful.

I mean Miracle Eye took care of the one big weakness of psychic/psionic energy, and she had become the number one training aid thanks to her mastery of Gravity.

She had surpassed even Luna/Clefable who had similarly mastered the move, and thanks to her parallel processing prowess she could keep up the gravity for training purposes even while doing her own thing. The others simply had to train within the gravity field.

While focusing on Gravity she could control the degree of the gravity increase within the affected area creating zones with different levels of gravity. As I said the perfect gravity training aid.

Well, Luna could do the last bit as well after she had mastered the move, but her control was not as good Nonetheless, she was able to help and tag in whenever necessary. Besides, she was better at healing, so there was that.

Anyway, that was pretty much anything of importance that happened during these five months, and now I had my month-long break to look forward to. I had already planned out what I was going to do during the month.

The first two weeks were reserved for my family, while I was planning to use the subsequent two weeks to follow up on some gossip/rumor I heard while working at the lab. Apparently, some people were swearing that they caught a Pokemon with a striking resemblance to a Tentacruel in the forest between Fuchsia City and Rose City.

Now, normally a Tentacruel would not have made it as a gossip topic in Oak's Lab even if the sighting of one was unusual outside the ocean. However, the witnesses swore that the Tentacruel was walking around the forest and not swimming or staying around a body of water or river/stream.

Not to mention that the Tentacruel seemed to be black with some yellow instead of the usual blue. Well, the ongoing opinion at the lab was that it might be a variant that popped up in a river or lake in the forest close to Fuchsia City, and I was inclined to agree with them.

Still, I was curious enough that I wanted to take a look at the Tentacruel myself since it was a pretty strong species and a variant could be interesting. I might even capture/keep it if it was good enough, if not, handing it over to Oak was sure to grant me a big bonus.

Anyway, I made my way to Hope Town after getting rid of all the perishable things in my dorm room and double-checking if the all sockets were empty, as well as making sure the door was locked. Not that I had left anything important there in the first place.

Once I was back home, mom engulfed me in a warm hug before she dragged me to the couch and began telling me all about the vacation plans she had made for us after getting the go-ahead from me a month ago.

It seemed that in two days, we were going to spend 4 days at a hotel on Seafoam Island, and mom said that the hotel had one of the winter/ice caverns to itself, which they had turned into a winter-themed park that was part of their offer/package.

Moreover, she revealed that both the hotel as well as the cavern/park belonged to the Schnee family and that Weiss and her family were going to play host for us during the 4 days we were staying on Seafoam Island.

After our trip to Seafoam Island, we would stay at home for three days, before we would head to Aero City and stay there for another 4 days vacation. According to mom, the hotel was close to two amusement parks and they were in a working partnership. One was a waterpark, while the other was an air-themed one, which was not that surprising considering the name of the city.

Mom also shared that Rose and her parents would be joining us at the hotel in Aero City, along with Ace and his mom. Mr. Gold was busy with work, so those two were coming alone.

Not only that, it seemed that mom had managed to pull Misty into her vacation plans since she was joining us as well. However, she was coming alone, without any of her parents or sisters tagging along. I was pretty sure that Misty had insisted on that one, and mom confirmed that Misty told her that there was no need to involve her family.

Anyway, after she finished sharing our vacation plan with me, mom looked at me expectantly and asked me what I thought, and I told her that it sounded fun, which made her smile happily.

Two days passed by pretty quickly with me just spending time with my parents and Pokemon, and before I knew it, we were heading towards Seafoam Island.
