CH134 (498), Every Action Results In A Reaction (2)

POV: Samuel Oak/3rd

Date: Palkiday, 07.03.2184

Location: Rota, Rota City, Aura Guardian Order HQ

Business aside, Samuel could not help but think that it was, at least, always nice to feel the "air" around the Guardian's headquarters. It was always full of positive life energy due to the high number of Aura Guardians that were always present as well as the ones that had been coming and going for the last few thousand years.

This place was a perfect example of what kind of impact the presence of a large number of energy-rich individuals could have on an area by staying there for a prolonged period. The prolonged period here was measured in decades, centuries, and even millennia.

Moreover, while such changes usually happened in areas inhabited by Pokemon tribes, the Aura Guardian Headquarters was proof that it was possible for humans to achieve the same. There were other such examples, but unlike the guardians, most of those groups were not as cohesive and organized, so it took them longer to achieve the same.

Honestly, the biggest and most common example of this phenomenon as far as humans were concerned were probably major cities, even if that was more of an unintended byproduct.

Most humans did not possess an affinity to a certain type of energy, but just like every other being, they still possessed some energy in their bodies, whether that be due to the food they consumed, the air they breathed in, or the water they drank, the bond they had with their Pokemon, or simply their vitality/life energy.

Unsurprisingly, just like it was with all other beings, a certain amount of energy in a human's body got passively released into the atmosphere as well, and since most humans were not inclined towards a certain type of energy, their energy became free energy hanging around in the atmosphere.

A small amount of that energy naturally changed according to some of the elements of the environment, such as water energy due to the water in the air or water bodies around the city, air/flying for the same reason, grass due to the greenery or small amounts of fire due to the heat of the sun. In short, a part of the energy got dispersed into nature, so to say.

A considerable part of the energy hung around and became true neutral/normal energy, which was why all major human cities became neutral energy-rich places after a few centuries. That was why many normal-type Pokemon enjoyed staying in and around human cities.

It was well known that energy-rich areas tended to have an influence on the beings/humans staying there for prolonged periods, such as them gaining an affinity for the energy that was suffusing the place. Examples of such places would be Lavaridge City in Hoenn which had a fair number of humans with a fire affinity and Bluetiful City in Kanto which had quite a few people with a water affinity.

The question that knowledge brought up was "Why were there not more humans around with an actual normal-type affinity capable of manipulating said energy if human cities were full of normal-type energy". The short answer they came up with was "We are not really sure".

The long answer had multiple theories/ideas that all made some sort of sense, but most of those boiled down to the fact that it was "harder" for humans to gain a neutral affinity than it was for many of the other types of energy since the regular energy inside their bodies was pretty close to neutral energy, so their bodies tended to ignore the difference and kept going as it was/usually did.

Not to mention the natural resistance their bodies had towards energy, which was why humans were able to survive in both energy-rich as well as poor areas and why they could resist some of the attacks of the weaker wild Pokemon as long as those were not too strong.

That was also why people with affinities were not common, and why people with more than one affinity were quite rare. Not to mention people like Mikail with multiple affinities, who could only be categorized as anomalies.

The whole thing was actually quite complicated, and there was a lot they did not know yet, but speaking of Mikail, it was time to focus back on the reason he came here in the first place. Well, before he went into professor mode, as he liked to call it, causing his thoughts had chosen to wander off on their own.

Samuel smiled a bit and made his way to the conference room where Arthur Cameron and a few other elders of the order were waiting for him. He shared Mikail's latest feat with them and explained what steps he had taken as a result before moving on to the reason he actually came here.

They talked about upping the security around Rota and Varon Labs as well as increasing the number of protectors shadowing Mikail until he moved back to Pallet to complete the rest of his internship. Mikail's family and friends also came up in that vein since the possibility existed that someone would try to use them against Mikail.

Samuel told them that the others were already covered, but that Mikail's friend Erza would need a silent guardian for some time since she was traveling through Rota, so he felt that her security was best left to the order. The elders agreed with him and promised to handle it.

After getting the approval of the other elders, Arthur shared Mikail's last mission as well as his actions during the mission with Samuel, who listened attentively to everything Arthur said before looking contemplative.

Professor Oak felt that this did explain Mikail's "haste" with the release of his papers a bit. In his opinion, there was a very good chance that Mikail felt that he had gone a bit too far with his actions during the mission, which made sense since the boy was an overall pleasant/nice person. Hence, Mikail might have wanted to use his work/papers to contribute a bit to humanity to balance out his emotions.

Samuel shared his idea with Arthur as well as the others, and they agreed that there was a high possibility that he was right. This also explained why he was less careful with the way he decided to handle the publication of his papers, so Samuel decided to complain a bit less, in his mind, about the work Mikail caused him.

Once they finished their discussion, Samuel left the order and made his way to Varon Labs to talk with Maria about the state of things.

Samuel settled across Maria after they walked into her office to discuss the reason for his visit. She had been among the professors invited to the conference on Mewday, so he did not have to talk about Mikail's papers.

He simply apprised her of the things that he had done to deal with the consequences of Mikail's papers, and that included the talks he had with the order about increasing the security around her laboratory for the rest of Mikail's stay at Varon Labs.

Once that was out of the way, they began to talk about Mikail's work here at the lab. Professor Oak had been reading the reports Mikail sent over, but hearing it from the professor in charge of the whole project gave him another perspective on things.

At the end of their talk Professor Oak brought up the duration of Mikail's stay at Varon Labs, and taking the current progress of the collaboration project into account, he made it clear to Professor Varon that Mikail would be returning to Oak Labs at the start of the next academic term. Unless, there was something Mikail had to tie up, in that case, he would be given a month or two to finish that.

Understandably, Professor Varon was a bit reluctant to part with such a genius and hoped for him to stay longer, but Professor Oak was insistent, so she had no choice but to accept that this was the last term that Mikail would be at Varon Labs.

If he had previously not decided to grumble less about the work Mikail had caused him, he would be grumbling about it right now. After leaving Varon Lans, he headed straight to Saffron City and came to the Alliance HQ.

Samuel had mentioned at the order that the security of Mikail's family and other friends was already covered, and he was here to deal with just that. Well, at least for those that needed additional security. The number that did was surprisingly low considering the circumstances of most of them.

Mikail's parents were always together and they were strong enough to take care of themselves. Still, they were Mikail's parents, so Samuel would apply for one of the available elder Gengar or Alakazam to tail them.

Aside from those two, Weiss Schnee was the heiress of the Schnee family, so she already had someone strong following her. He simply informed her father, the family head, and told her that Weiss' tail should be more alert for the next while.

Ace Gold was with the Navy, so he did not need any extra security. Kinji was a Bug King/Champion Class trainer, and Misty Williams was a Sea Duchess/Elite-Class trainer, not to mention her family's strength. Yu Tianjin was the only link his colleagues at Orre had to Mikail, so they were keeping an eye on the boy anyway.

Most of Mikail's other friends were decently strong as well and had the backing of some small or mid-sized family, so they were more or less safe. The only exceptions to that were Jessica Joy and Rose Field.

Those two would definitely need a security detail, especially since they belonged to the group that was closest to Mikail. Rose's parents were decently strong and stayed in Orchid City most of the time, so they were in the clear as well.

Well, at least all this was what he thought to be appropriate. They would see how the security issue would be dealt with once he began discussing the topic with some of the other alliance elders.

Nonetheless, he was sure things would go close to what he was guessing since no one wanted anyone to get something that could be used against Mikail. After entering the meeting room he was even surer of his previous guess since he knew that the view of most of the elders present aligned with his own view of things.

POV: Arthur Cameron/3rd

Date: Arcday, 01.08.2184

Location: Rota, Rota City, Aura Guardian Order HQ

Nearly all of the elders had gathered today to talk about the imminent dismissal of the additional security detail of Mikail due to his return to Oak Labs in a month and the upcoming dismissal of the initial security measure due to one of his main Pokemon officially reaching the dark gold stage.

Honestly, most of the elders, spearheaded by Arthur Cameron, were against the dismissal of all protectors and instead believed that the rank/strength of the silent protector should even be upgraded. Mikail had proven himself to be too impressive and there was no doubt in anyone's mind that he would become an important pillar for humanity in the future.

Someone like that had to be protected, and throughout the meeting, they discussed how to go about that. They decided against dismissing the mark they had left on him since that was what allowed his tail to keep track of his general location whenever he did not vanish into that mystery space/island of his.

The order went all out in their considerations and decided to request the help of one of the orders retired Stage 6 Alakazam and Gengar. The two would take on the position of Mikail's secret security together, at least until they were sure that Mikail could escape from the clutches of a Champion-class adversary the regular way, without relying on his strange space.

The duo would start their job as soon as Mikail was back at Oak Labs. Arthur Cameron was chosen as the one to inform Professor Oak of the change and to introduce both Genegar and Alakazam to him to avoid those two being seen as intruders later on when they followed Mikail.

Arthur Cameron paid a visit to Professor Oak with Alakzam and Gengar in tow to share the order's decision with him and to introduce the protector duo to Oak so that he could specify them as non-threats to his own security system. Oak seemed rather happy with the steps the order had taken and asked his own Alakazam to handle the necessary procedures.
