Shadow Light
Chapter 44
Echoes of Kyoto
Kailash
In the heart of his celestial palace, Shiva, the Supreme God of Destruction, awaited the report of his most trusted spy regarding the recent disturbances emanating from Kyoto. The turmoil in the cosmic energies was of a magnitude that threatened to destabilise Earth and even other realms.
The spy, an ethereal figure, materialized before him. "Lord Shiva," he began, bowing deeply, "the focal point of the recent events in Kyoto was none other than Uzumaki Naruto. He managed to rally the Shinto gods, the Maous, the Devils, and even beings from other pantheons. His actions not only neutralised the immediate threat but catalysed an unexpected unity among these forces."
Shiva nodded, deep in thought. "Uzumaki Naruto," he whispered, his memories taking him back to their meeting three years ago. The vibrant energy of the young shinobi, his audacious spirit, and the depths of his wisdom had left a lasting impression. "I remember our conversation," Shiva remarked. "He questioned me, challenged the very tenets we gods often take for granted."
The spy continued, "His audacity to confront and criticise gods, combined with his innate ability to heal and offer solace, is rare. The realms buzz with talk of his dual nature."
Shiva's eyes held a distant look, "Yes, during our meeting, he demonstrated a unique kind of influence, making even an old deity like me reassess some beliefs. Such confrontation, yet so transformative."
The spy added, "Many whisper that despite his youth, Naruto possesses a blend of power and morality that even seasoned rulers have yet to achieve."
Shiva, remembering their past interaction and the sensations he felt from Kyoto, responded, "Indeed. Uzumaki has vast potential. He might just be the fulcrum around which the destinies of various realms shift."
The spy concluded his report, and as he faded into the shadows, Shiva was lost in his thoughts. Naruto's role in the cosmic scheme was becoming clearer. The God of Destruction felt a stirring of anticipation – whatever lay ahead in the universe's intricate web, Naruto Uzumaki would undoubtedly be at its epicentre. The unpredictability of it all thrilled Shiva.
'Should I pay a visit to the blonde? It's been long after all.' Shiva mused. It's not like he can/will be detected. The reason for him staying is smaller. Indra. 'Maybe I can send one of his avatars there,' Shiva pondered. But one thing is clear, Naruto doesn't indulge himself in whimsy notions.
Naruto's silence over the past three years spoke volumes. It made Shiva wonder, "Is he genuinely seeking peace?" Most gods, including Supreme Gods like Shiva, had rarely entertained the idea of lasting peace. They viewed it as fleeting since it had been relatively short-lived on a cosmic scale.
For them, if peace was so temporary, why invest in it? But Naruto's actions, like defeating a massive horde of Onis in mere minutes, hinted at the possibility of real change. This brought a ray of hope to Shiva's heart.
Despite his title as the God of Destruction, Shiva loathed war, often tasked with cleaning up its tragic aftermath. This was one reason he chose the tranquil Kailash range as his abode rather than the bustling heavens or lavish cities.
Realising all this, Shiva decided Uzumaki Naruto is worth watching. Though he can't do much as of now, he can at least stay vigilant to change, unlike Indra who openly opposes it.
Just as Shiva's thoughts deepened, his wife, Parvathi, approached him. Sensing his contemplative mood, she gently took his hand. "Dear, you carry the weight of so many worlds. Let's take a moment to find calm together," she said softly, guiding him towards their favourite spot in the mountains, where they often found shared solace and rejuvenation. Shiva followed, unable to resist her sweet scent and gentle tone.
Meanwhile
Kyoto
As the sun dipped below the Kyoto skyline, casting its golden farewell on the ancient city, the atmosphere among the Kuoh Academy students was a mixture of exhaustion and fulfilment. They had seen the splendour of Kyoto's temples, tasted its cuisine, and experienced its culture.
In the bustling Kyoto station, amidst the echoing announcements and the distant chatter of travellers, a sense of solemnity settled over Platform 9. Kuoh Academy's students, their faces a mix of exhaustion and contentment, were readying to board the train that would take them home. Luggage in tow and souvenirs packed safely, they whispered excitedly about the adventures they had experienced during their trip.
Rosseweisse stood on the platform, clipboard in hand, doing a final headcount. Her eyes scanned over the students—some chatting animatedly about their experiences, others looking contemplative, perhaps still processing the extraordinary events they'd been part of.
Once everyone was accounted for, Rosseweisse nodded in satisfaction standing in front of her students, her eyes meeting Yasaka, the trip in charge.
"Thank you for your amazing hospitality, Yasaka-dono. We are very grateful for your assistance." Rossweisse said with a bow to which Yasaka gave a small smile.
Standing before them, Yasaka, as beautiful as always, stepped forward. Her golden eyes shimmered as she surveyed the sea of young faces before her. With a graceful, almost regal air, she began to speak, her voice melodic and soft yet carrying weight.
"Students of Kuoh Academy, we've travelled through Kyoto's rich history together. You've seen our temples and learned our traditions." She continued, "I hope you remember what you've seen and learned here. Kyoto's history is not just old tales but lessons for today. Always remember, you're always welcome back to learn more."
She finished with a polite bow, and the students clapped in appreciation.
As the clapping subsided and students began to move towards the train, Yasaka's gaze inadvertently met Naruto's. The world seemed to quieten for a split second. In his cerulean eyes, she saw a depth of understanding and warmth, mixed with a hint of longing mirroring her own. Neither spoke, but the silent exchange held promises of reunions, unspoken words, and the shared hope of a future where their worlds intertwine.
The train's whistle blew, breaking the trance, and with one final nod, Yasaka watched as the students, including Naruto, boarded the train. Kanao and Hiyori silently stood by her side, basking in the final moments of Naruto's presence in Kyoto.
As the train's doors closed, Naruto, who was standing by one of the windows, maintained his gaze on Yasaka. While the distance between them grew as the train exited, the connection they shared seemed as strong as ever. The ambient noise of students settling into their seats, the rustling of bags, and the distant conversations all faded into the background for Naruto.
His cerulean eyes locked onto Yasaka's, conveying a depth of reassurance and silent promise. The look seemed to say, "You will see me soon." Yasaka, her heart heavy with emotions, smiled gently in response, her eyes shimmering with gratitude and a touch of melancholy.
She remembered the final moments of the day before. A promise Naruto made to her and a small smile graced her lips. She gave a small nod as the train faded from her view.
Kanao, always observant, sensed the profound connection between Naruto and Yasaka. Standing beside the nine-tailed fox leader, she gave Naruto a small, knowing nod, silently acknowledging their shared understanding and respect. Hiyori waved energetically at the departing train, her face radiant with genuine happiness for the time the students had spent in Kyoto.
As the train began to pull away, the majestic landscape of Kyoto gradually transitioned to the countryside. Students pressed their faces against the windows, taking one last look at the city that had welcomed them so warmly. The waving figures of Yasaka, Kanao, and Hiyori grew smaller until they were mere specks against the backdrop of the station.
Inside the train, the atmosphere is bittersweet. Excited chatter about the trip's highlights filled the air, interspersed with sighs of longing for the adventures now behind them.
Most students were engrossed in their conversations, sharing stories, and recounting their experiences. However, in one corner of the carriage, a more sombre atmosphere prevailed.
Rosseweisse sat there, her face turned towards the window, but her usually vibrant eyes were clouded with disappointment. She had hoped to find someone special during the trip, especially with Naruto's enthusiastic attempts to help. But, alas, she is returning to Kuoh, still single.
Naruto, ever observant, noticed the melancholy expression on his teacher's face. He approached and sat beside her, gently placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Rosy-sensei," he began softly, "Kyoto was just one place, one chapter. Your story is still being written. You can't let this bring you down."
Rosseweisse turned to look at him, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. She tried to muster a smile but ended up with a quivering lip. "I know, Naruto... It's just... I really thought this time would be different. With all the cultural events, the beautiful sceneries, and your help, I thought I'd finally meet someone."
Naruto squeezed her shoulder, offering a comforting smile. "Life has its own pace, Rosy-sensei. But I promise, there's someone out there for you. And until then, you've got all of us. You're not alone."
The raw sincerity in Naruto's voice touched a chord within Rossweisse. She gave him a teary look, which spoke volumes of gratitude and the close bond they shared. In a school where playful jests about her relationship status often went too far, Naruto had always been her protector, her pillar of strength.
"Thank you, Naruto," she whispered, wiping away a tear. The two sat there for a while, silently watching the landscapes shift outside, each finding solace in the other's company.
Rias and Sona sat in a quieter section of the train, their focus apparent. While the ambience in the rest of the carriage was casual and relaxed, between them, an air of determination and strategy prevailed. They were deeply engrossed in conversation, often referencing their recent confrontation with the Onis as a learning experience.
Sona leaned forward, her usually calm demeanour showing a hint of frustration. "During our fight with the Oni's, we managed to synergize our strengths well. But Naruto... he's on a different level altogether. We need an unconventional strategy."
Rias nodded, twirling a strand of her crimson hair thoughtfully. "You're right. His unpredictability is what gives him an edge. Not to mention his sacred gear. That thing is nuts. I'm not sure if that is still his Balance Breaker or not."
The two girls glanced over to Naruto, who was engaged in a heartwarming conversation with Rossweisse, their teacher. Seeing him in such a gentle moment made it hard to reconcile with the formidable man they had seen on the battlefield.
"His compassion is his strength," Sona remarked, observing the interaction. "He genuinely cares for those around him. That emotional drive powers his determination in battles."
Rias smiled, a touch of admiration in her eyes. "It's endearing. But it can also be a weakness. If we can find a way to use that compassion against him, create a moment of hesitation... maybe, just maybe, we could gain an upper hand."
Sona looked intrigued. "It's risky, but it could work. We'd need to create a scenario during the spar where he's forced to make a choice, between defending and attacking. Though overpowering is another matter."
Rias leaned back, deep in thought. "It's a start. We should brainstorm more on this. Also, we need to understand his magic better. Maybe get some intel on his abilities."
As the train continued its journey, the two young women immersed themselves in strategic discussions. They knew the challenge ahead was daunting, but they were also aware of the importance of pushing their limits, learning, and growing. The upcoming spar with Naruto is not just a fight; it is an opportunity.
As the 2 Kings discussed strategies to make things better, Akeno sat by the window, deep in her thoughts. The landscape outside raced past, but her mind is elsewhere, centred around a certain individual with cerulean eyes and sun-kissed hair.
Naruto.
The more she thought about him, the more she realised the depths of her feelings. Initially, it might have been mere intrigue, his strength and unpredictable nature drawing her in. But now, there is a deeper emotional connection, an unspoken bond that made her heart race faster.
A particular conversation she had with Reni echoed in her mind, bringing a frown to her usually graceful face. Reni, in her candid manner, had mentioned that Akeno's chances of winning Naruto's heart would be higher if she embraced her hidden power. The remark had stung. It isn't the fact that Reni questioned her abilities; it is the insinuation that she needed 'his' powers to be deemed 'worthy' of someone's affection.
She could vividly recall the weight of her own words as she retorted to Reni, "I don't want to use 'his' powers to be recognised. Naruto will see me for who I truly am, and I'll win his heart with my genuine self."
Now, in the solitude of her thoughts, Akeno reflected on her own determination. She is proud of who she is, and while she knew she possessed tremendous latent power, she wanted to be recognized and loved for her innate qualities — her kindness, understanding, and strength of character.
Akeno closed her eyes and took a deep breath, remembering Naruto's astonishing accomplishments in Kyoto, his uplifting smile, and the idea that he might become upset on her behalf. All these memories brought a smile to her face. One thing is clear in her mind: she is determined to win Naruto's heart through her genuine self, regardless of her concealed abilities.
