Chapter 40

"Through the rain, the world is blurred. Yet, the cold and chill of my bones come from inside."

I didn't know how he had found me, yet here I am. Megan's unconscious form in his arms – the thudding of rain on the rooftop of our little abode, something that would have typically been calming was not foreboding.

"You've been hiding away here," it wasn't a question, but a statement, his voice was mocking, "How quaint."

"What do you want?"

His chuckle sent my hackles rising, but I had enough sense that I would lose if I were to have a physical fight with him.

He stopped abruptly, and his gaze fell on me. Dark and heavy, twisted and insane.

"You."

He walked closer, letting her crumple to the ground, "Do you know how happy I was when I continued receiving your letters? Do you know that I was so impossibly happy that my wife was finally sending me letters weekly, asking me about my health, and showing care towards me? Did you know how happy I was?"
