Visiting Someone In The Hospital

Serenity woke up to the sound of waves hitting the rocks causing a loud sound. When she opened her eyes she was startled by the sea in a cerulean-blue gown. The sky was like a curtain of silk, tufty clouds of wizard-white drifted past. Her eyes were mesmerized to gaze at the beautiful creatures that hover all over the ocean and on the deep-sea waters.

She looked at her lap and didn't see Elliot's head lying on it. She backed away when she saw Zephyr next to him who was also leaning his back against the big rock.

"It's beautiful..." He said in amazement while looking at the beautiful view.

"Where's Elliot?" Serenity asked.

"His Mom took him home," Zephyr answered Serenity's question while he's still staring at the ocean.

"What about the girl I tried to save—?" Serenity worriedly asked Zephyr, his gaze turned to Serenity assuring her that everything's fine.

"She's fine now, we should go now. You should change your clothes before you get sick." Serenity nodded even though she didn't understand what Zephyr said, they started walking.

"Where will we go?" Serenity asked but she didn't receive a response from Zephyr.

"First you should wear this." Zephyr placed a pair of slippers at Serenity's feet.

"What's this?" Serenity asked, looking at the slippers curiously.

"Slippers, it's important that you wear them so you don't get injured," Zephyr said.

"But it's rocky here and I don't have any wounds in my foot." Serenity immediately looked at her arm when she remembered that she had a wound there but she didn't see any wound or scar which surprised her.

Serenity looked at Zephyr wearing slippers and imitated it. They started walking and Serenity was just amazed at what she saw.

She looked up and the trees that were skyscraper tall. In the canopy, birds twittered, chirping and calling in distant melodies to their kin. A faint rustling could be heard as small rodents scampered through the foliage, though it was drowned out by the greater rustling of the leaves in the gentle breeze.

"Woah I don't know there's also an amazing place here except for the ocean..." She said amazingly.

"Why? Haven't you been here yet?" Zephyr asked Serenity in surprise because this forest was the only path to get out of that ocean.

"No, I haven't been here so it's my first time." Serenity replied, still looking around.

"What? Then, where do you live?" Serenity stopped at Zephyr's question.

"In the ocean..." Her face was saddened.

"In the ocean?" Zephyr whispered to himself.

"A-ah I mean since I was just a kid I'm close to the ocean so that's why you always see me there." Zephyr nodded at what Serenity said and was convinced.

They have arrived at Zephyr's simple house. Serenity looked at him, Zephyr nodded and took a deep breath before entering the house. Serenity looked around first before following Zephyr. He saw Zephyr take off his slippers so she imitated it as well.

"Desiree!" Zephyr shouted and Desiree came down because of Zephyr shouting and was surprised to see Serenity with him.

"W-Woah."

"Lend her clothes first, she might get sick if she still wears her wet clothes." Desiree nodded and immediately pulled Serenity to her room.

"Desiree..." Serenity said and Desiree stopped what she was doing and looked at Serenity in shock.

"It's your first time calling me by my name." She smiled and continued what she was doing.

"A-ah is that so... By the way, thank you."

Serenity said as she looked at herself in the mirror. She touched her tortilla baggy shirt revealing her black shorts.

"Serenity..." Desiree said, Serenity looked at her.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Can you stay here?" She asked shyly.

"Why?" Serenity asked.

"Well, no reason in particular." She answered.

"Oh! Okay, no problem." Serenity said.

They both looked at the door when they heard a knock. They knew immediately who was knocking so Desiree opened it. Zephyr looked at Serenity and grabbed Serenity's hand and started dragging her when Desiree pulled Serenity's other hand.

"What are you doing Desiree? Serenity and I have some important place to go, let go of her hand right now." Zephyr authoritatively said but Desiree didn't move and pulled Serenity closer to her and answered Zephyr.

"What's happening there?" The three of them looked at Zephyr and Desiree's father approaching them. Zephyr took that chance and pulled Serenity to run. Serenity's eyes and Ezekiel's met, and in those few silent moments Ezekiel, Zephyr and Desiree's dad were surprised. Serenity turned her face away.

"Where are we going?" Serenity asked but didn't receive a response from Zephyr. Serenity removed Zephyr's hand that was holding her and she looked at Zephyr and saw he was pissed and there were tears on his face.

"What's the problem?" Zephyr wiped away his tears and continued walking. Serenity couldn't do anything but follow him.

"Where are we?" Serenity looked around and read the word 'Hospital'. Zephyr went inside and Serenity followed him. As they entered the hospital Serenity had a different experience she was welcomed by the bad smell of medicines.

People were running here and there. Some were rushing into the emergency. Some crying people were brought in. Many had sad faces, several persons were returning happily who had recovered from their illness. There were a large number of rooms on the left and the right. In the corridors of the hospital, there was a great bustle and activity.

From their faces, Serenity could find that there was no sympathy. Everything appeared to be so mechanical that it couldn't even show a tiny little bit of sympathy, something a man in suffering desperately needs. The patients lying there were in very pathetic condition. Pain, anxiety, tension, and helplessness were writ large on their faces.

They stopped in front of a room. Zephyr knocked first before opening the door and Serenity's eyes widened when she suddenly saw Elliot and so did Elliot but Elliot immediately hugged her.

"I'm sorry Ms. Mermaid because Mom and I didn't wake you up earlier," Elliot said.

"That's okay. What are you doing here?" Serenity asked. The boy's face lit up when he suddenly remembered something and pulled Serenity closer to Avery lying in the hospital bed.

"Avery, She's Ms. Mermaid. She's the one who saved you." The girl Avery sat down and thanked Serenity for rescuing her. Elliot and Avery said goodbye to Serenity with a smile on their lips.

The sun was setting and Serenity and Zephyr thought of going back to the ocean and watching the sun go down. The way the light falls across the sea, the thinness of the clouds above the sun, the crimson tinge to everything. A quivering route across the lake was lit by the brilliant sun, a sharp circle in the scarlet sky. The timid waves of the ocean and the wispy clouds were bathed in a fiery scarlet that greeted them.
