"Cough* Cough* Cough* What happened Vel," Vaarn wheezed out. "Honey, look at this," Vel exclaimed. She pointed to the stunned Thefir's head. "This, what happened, is something wrong, is he sick, should he lay down, or maybe-"
Vaarn clasped her shoulders consoled, "Veluthe everything is fine." "Fine, his beautiful hair has turned black!" "My love, that is actually a great thing," Vaarn smiled. He turned to look at Tefir, who at the moment was utterly lost.
One moment he was trying to think of a plausible excuse for his sudden change, the next he gets carried down the stairs at lightning speed.
"Tef, do you feel.. different in anyway? Lighter, stronger, smarter perhaps?" Tefir looked at himself and closed his eyes.
"I feel like I can think faster, and my vision feels funny," Tefir answered honestly. He couldn't deny that his mind felt far clearer, his vision was much sharper, and he could see an ambient blue glow in the air and swirling around his parents.
Vaarn, heard his answer and smiled even brighter. "Well Tef, looks like not only will your dream to become a wizard come true, you have an talent for it!" Veluthe stepped in, "Honey, explain, also why is his hair black now?" She was much calmer now that she knew Tefir was sick, or hurt somehow. "The answer to those questions is one in the same. Tefir has been blessed, by Arcaniss." Veluthe froze and smile slowly blossomed on her face. "I always knew my Tefir, was special! Now even the gods believe that!"
At that moment a whistling came from the kitchen. "Oh dear, the kettle!" Veluthe ran to kitchen as her worries had been alleviated.
Tefir was baffled. He thought to himself, "Blessed by a god? I don't think so. Then again, that wouldn't be the oddest thing that happened today." Tefir asked, "What does that mean?"
Vaarn looked warmly at Tefir," It means that, you will have an innate knack for all things arcane, a great memory, and most important you will be able to see ambient mana without the aid of spells or tools. I'm sure you've already noticed it, yes?"
"You mean that blue glowing stuff in the air?"
"Precisely! it has been recorded by previous blessed people, that untamed mana is blue in neutral environments."
"Then why does it swirl around you and Mom?"
Vaarn was taken aback. "From all accounts on those that were blessed by Arcaniss only 3 had such a keen sense for mana. They achieved their keen sense through deep meditating in mana rich areas. Implying that you already have a sense for mana on par with an Arcmage."
Vaarn made an odd face that was both a smile and not a smile. If Tefir hadn't had that experience this morning he might not know what that look was. It was extreme jealousy, and extreme pride.
Vaarn walked over to the window and released a deep sigh. He turned back and looked at Tefir with only pride on his face. "Okay, Tef. starting tomorrow I'm going to teach you the basics of magic."
"I get to learn magic," Tefir said almost in disbelief. In the Crisle kingdom it is illegal to start teaching a child magic before they are 8. In his mind Tefir noted, "I was expecting to be able to learn magic starting in 3 years this works for me. He he, I can't wait!" A big smile began to grow on his face
Vaarn looked at his son and smiled, before putting on a serious face. "Tef." Tefir snapped out of his those and looked at him. "Listen closely to what I'm about to say." Vaar kneeled down to be eye level with Tefir. "Magic is beautiful and wonderous, but it is in equal measures dangerous and deadly. I need you to follow my instructions precisely, and never, and I mean Never use magic without my or your mother's supervision, am I understood?"
Tefir gave him an equally serious look, equal in his mind anyway, and replied, "Yes sir!"
Vaarn started to laugh as he saw his sons very cute serious face, it was like an angry puppy.
Veluthe yelled from the kitchen, "Boys, breakfast is ready!"
They all shared a meal around the table, smiles abound.
