Graduation arrives! [Part-29]

Veronica flipped a page in her book she was pretending to read. She couldn't have everyone thinking that she was too smart. Especially when all of the important figures of the village were keeping an eye out on the clan heirs giving the exams this time.

'I'm starting to think that saving Shisui isn't going to be of much help.'

[…

Why?]-Matatabi

Matatabi's voice rang in her ear. Her voice didn't sound particularly curious but just a bit interested. She didn't care about him at all even after she'd seen him interact with Veronica.

'Because he's done absolutely nothing till now. He hasn't even tried to find out what's been happening in the outside world. It's... Weird.'

[Maybe he's just... tired of it all?]-Matatabi

'Perhaps. But if he were to be reveal himself to Sasuke right now, maybe he wouldn't be such an emo duck ass.'

[I can bet my life that he would STILL be an emo duck ass.]-Matatabi

Although the two joked around, they both knew that this was quite suspicious. They knew just how Shisui's personality was. They knew just how much responsibility he felt towards his village. He and Itachi were very similar in this regard, they would do anything for the village.

However, Uchiha always had something or someone they loved to the point of obsession. Itachi was obsessed with Sasuke. And she was sure that Shisui had something like that as well.

'There's also the fact that he could kill me, well, my clone to be exact at any moment of time however he has never tried to do so.'

Snapping out of her thoughts, she noticed Sakura approaching her.

"Veronica-Chan! It's your turn now! Good luck."-Sakura

Sakura, Veronica was proud to admit that she had grown beautifully for a civilian 12 year old girl. Her hair was kept at medium length and tied back. She always wore ninja sandals, shorts or pants and a very dark pink shirt. If she was practicing then she would wear a black or a dark green hoodie to hide her hair. She was one of the best in taijutsu at the academy along with being the best of the best in book smarts.

She also had a lot of knowledge about other countries, their fighting styles and some small villages near the fire country. She had basic knowledge about the ninja ranking system in Konoha and although Veronica would always win in their spars but Sakura always had many surprises up her sleeves. Veronica was mostly surprised by the way she planned things, since every time they fought, she would always have something new in store.

She had even managed to surprise the second hokage once with her strategy.

Veronica smiled a bit towards to let her know she heard her.

Veronica silently went in the room. She wanted to hide her presence like she does normally but knew that it would freak out both of the teachers in the room. It was safe to say she was feeling a bit uncomfortable without hiding her presence since it had become natural for her.

Even while she was living with Kakashi her footsteps were always silent and her chakra just blended in with the surroundings too much. Kakashi wasn't really surprised after a couple of months of getting used to it. She never really hid so he could of course see her moving about but it was still eerie to him.

[It would be eerie to anyone.]-Tobirama

'Did you forget you don't have any lines right now?'

[Tch.]-Tobirama

[A/n: Sorry sorry, just wanted to have a little fun for a moment.]

'Do you feel that?'

Her face which showed a bit of excitement had instantly turned emotionless. It had been a while since she hadn't been faking her emotions.

[Of course I do.]-Matatabi

Her voice had lost it's usual brightness.

[Who is it?]-Tobirama

[I can't tell. It's an unfamiliar chakra.]-Matatabi

Veronica's footsteps quickened a tiny bit when she heard what Matatabi had said. Her little body was a bit tense and her brain was immediately in fight or flight mode. She had never felt so unprepared and weak.

'I can feel it's gaze. It's like it's not even trying to hide itself.'

A bead of sweat rolled down her forehead.

Taking in a breath, her eyes made contact with it.

'Mangekyou Sharingan.'

Her breathing had become much faster as she swiftly removed her eyes from the spinning eye. Matatabi wanted to send her some chakra to disturb Veronica's chakra flow but Veronica had already done so.

'Hide your presence. Quick.'

It was a short message for Matatabi but she understood the significance. It meant that either Veronica was going to run any second or that she would die.

Veronica knew that eye better than anyone.

That pattern.

And a single eye at that.

'Obito...'

*Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.*

She noticed the pressure had subsided soon enough and the man had warped.

Her knees felt weak but she didn't pause in her walking. She couldn't let anyone be suspicious right now.

'Nobody even knows that I know what a mangekou looks like. I can't just say that I saw it and be suspected of treason or something. Besides... The Hokage may or may not know about the Akatsuki. I could be suspected of being a part of them.'

Veronica's mind was working at a much faster pace than before. She was taking in deep breaths and wiping off her sweat. Her face had no expression just like before but it one looked closely they could see the stress and how pale she had turned in just one moment.

She had no idea why he would want to reveal himself, his eye specifically, to her. There were too many uncertainties and too many possibilities to count. She couldn't even force herself to sense his emotions from his chakra due to the sudden fear which had enveloped her.

'My face probably looks too pale right now...

Matatabi, I may forget his chakra because of that fear. Make sure at least you remember it.'

[Don't worry, I won't forget anything.]-Matatabi

Veronica felt something small shaking in her pocket. She put her hand in it and petted the small rabbit which was the size of a mouse. It was black in color with typical red eyes.

'Even this guy was able to feel it's presence. But it was enough to not reach any of the ninja in the school. He has quite a lot of control over his chakra.

I need to get stronger.'

She didn't understand why such a thing had happened. Why had he done something like this? She didn't have any plausible reason for it. But she did have many hypotheses.

[A/n: Is the plural for hypothesis 'Hypotheses'? I don't know if I'm correct. Let me know in the comments.]
